A Guide to High School Programs Abroad in Shanghai

Popular High School Programs in Shanghai

You’ve set your heart on the Far East and are all geared up to go, but not sure which teen travel program in Shanghai to choose?

Popular teen programs in Shanghai include language immersion courses. As the main language spoken in Shanghai is Mandarin (with four tones and thousands of characters, not to scare anyone away...), language classes taught in schools and university campuses vary from complete beginner to advanced levels. Note-passing during class (in Chinese) has never been more exciting.

In love with the Chinese way of life and want to explore more? Adventure culture trips offer an insight into the marvellously rich and colorful history of China, dating back to 1000 B.C. - as ancient as the universal love for Peking Duck! If you’re thinking ahead and want to add a few “Wowza!” lines on your resume, consider interning. Understanding the Chinese business mindset, in a major economic hub of Asia like Shanghai, will give you a leg up the length of Great Wall.

The majority of the programs are during the summer, but there are also those that last an entire academic year, if your high school allows quasi-exchange programs as such. Don’t rule out the short vacations throughout the high school year - there are short and punchy programs that cater those who want to have a little taste of China.

Loved interacting with locals

I would highly reccomend this program because it is an opportunity of a lifetime, especially for teenagers our age who have not yet traveled independently. It has not only developed my independence, but also expanded my comfort zone concerning socializing with locals and asking questions in the local language.
