My time spent in Hawaii
September 11, 2025by: Jessica Murray - United StatesProgram: USA: Hawaii and New Orleans Travel with Rustic Pathways
This past summer I traveled on the Hawaii Surf Snorkel and Service program and it was one of the best experiences I've ever had. My group was with 11 other girls and 3 leaders from around the world. We saw an active volcano, sea turtles in the ocean, and many fish with snorkeling off of the catamaran boat... and so much more. We also did service in the farms which allowed me to learn so much about the Hawaiian culture. Not only were there hundreds of opportunities for amazing instagram photos, but most of the time we were so busy living in the moment that we didn't even think to take any photos. And it was okay because our leaders were always taking awesome photos! I met amazing people on this trip, people that taught me lessons about myself that I would have never been able to learn otherwise. I was pushed out of my comfort zone in the best way possible. Everyday we did multiple new and exciting things, but if someone wasn't comfortable one of the leaders were always there for help. Now after 2 months, I still talk with the girls I went on the trip with and they have become my best friends. If you are contemplating whether or not to go on this trip I tell you to 100% book the ticket right now, and that you will not regret it!!!

Hi Jessica! Thank you for sharing your experience on the Hawaii Surf Snorkel and Service program. We're thrilled you discovered new places, learned about Hawaiian culture, and built strong friendships along the way. It's inspiring to hear how much this trip impacted you, and we hope to see you on another adventure with us next year!

This an increasingly popular way for individuals to make a meaningful impact in communities around the world. By being aware of the pros and cons, doing thorough research, and choosing a reputable organization, volunteers can have a safe, rewarding, and life-changing experience abroad.

Experiencing poverty and connecting with good people
February 08, 2023by: Cal Page-BryantProgram: Construction & Renovation Volunteering in New Orleans USA
I think that hesitancy is definitely valid, because embarking on a volunteer trip is a pretty major step into the unknown and to new, very different experiences, and especially if the hesitancy is also due to someone wanting to make sure that the work they will be doing is entirely ethical and has the support of local communities who stand to be impacted by it. Also, I think it is hard sometimes to really know for sure what the impact of your work will be and what the future will look like. But if you trust that your program is working ethically or at least coming from an ethical place, and doing so in partnership with locals, then go for it! At least you're trying to make the world a better place, especially if you humble yourself to know that you are a small part of an effort greater than any one person, and that is a good thing to be. The impact my volunteering trip had on me was impressing upon me the reality of poverty and life experiences that are vastly different from what I am accustomed to. The struggle to find affordable housing, to get medical and mental healthcare, to support a family and to survive when society doesn't care much about you. I think anyone from a privileged background, including myself, can benefit from gaining a little empathy and a little understanding for people in different circumstances. Volunteering in itself is gratifying work, but it is made infinitely more enjoyable and memorable if you are working with others who maintain a positive, welcoming workplace culture, who are committed to the cause but have time to greet and chat with fellow volunteers while we work. I met some really good people and had some great conversations over the din of hammers, nail guns and saws. I have a feeling I'll remember them with fondness for many years.
The Hostel was perfect in every way
October 31, 2022by: Didi Muncaster-WrightProgram: Art & Community Outreach Volunteering in New Orleans USA
My favorite moment from the experience was seeing people come into the food center and how gracious and friendly they are. 1st world developed countries still have people in desperate need of help. The Hostel was perfect in every way. Bed was more comfortable than my own one. Great facilities. Extremely friendly staff.. What have you truly got to lose except fantastic memories to look back on.
Do not hesitate! Best experience of my life!
March 16, 2021by: Silvia S. Terratiz - SpainProgram: Volunteer World: Best Volunteer Abroad Programs Worldwide
I probably had one of the best experiences of my life in Natuwa for a month, feeding the many animals that live there, taking care of them, discovering a different way of life than mine, more minimalist and peaceful. Rodolfo is an extremely understanding man who cares about the well-being of his voluntarios. We had the chance to do several extra activities outside the centre, such as snorkeling near to Isla Tortuga, or swimming at night with bioluminescent planktons, which were dazzling. The workteam is really friendly and allows you to feel integrated quickly and easily. However, you have to expect to work hard sometimes, for example planting trees, doing work to maintain the infrastructure, but this is only a part of the day. outside the centre
Home away from homesick already!!
March 16, 2019by: Bethany Schofield - United KingdomProgram: HorseWorks Wyoming Horse Ranch Vacations & Internships
Truly some of the best weeks of my life so far. An opportunity involving time spent with horses, day in and day out, and a chance to get the feel for life on a ranch in Wyoming. I made lifelong friendships with people from across the globe with whom I learnt new skills, had once in a lifetime experiences and witnessed some of the most mesmerising views on a daily basis. MaeCile makes you feel right at home and does everything she can to help you make the most of your time spent at HorseWorks (not to mention she makes the best cinnamon rolls known to man). I already want to go back!!
A wondrous experience
February 25, 2019by: Michael Ojeme - NigeriaProgram: Volunteer World: Best Volunteer Abroad Programs Worldwide
The time I spent in Dubai, Oman and Abdul Dhabi, I have a wonderful and experiential Joy with the people and I was able to showcased my skills and the people explore my knowledge to their satisfaction Little details of my experience Dubai Falcon Ballroom Hotel which was so great. Even more perfect was the fact that they had thought of everything in advance, I didn’t need to remind them I needed a fresh bed shread in the room (which I did have to do twice at the local hotel I stayed in my country, more on this later) as they had already taken care of that prior to our arrival. The bed, oh the bed! It was dreamy in every way, the most comfortable place I’ve ever laid in, and the most restful sleep I had had in years, and sometimes teary nighttime awakenings. some things can’t be helped…oh, the joys of travelling with flight Emirate is spectacular. A night between those bed-sheets really restores and rebalances you. I had excellent views directly facing the Mall of the Emirate and part of the pool below (if you stretched your neck). Everything in the room was spotlessly clean and looked brand new. The desk was comfortable for planning my daily routes on our my map.

My time as an intern here was honestly one of the best experiences of my life! MaeCile, as well as all the other interns, were so so friendly from the moment we met, and MaeCile amazing in helping us do any specific activities we wanted to do! All of the horses are so friendly and so well cared for, and we even got friendly with some of the cows too! Thank you for the best few weeks of my life (as well as some of the best cooking I have ever tasted!) I can’t wait to hopefully come back some day!
Self Challenge in Thailand
January 04, 2019by: zhongxuan yang - ChinaProgram: Volunteer World: Best Volunteer Abroad Programs Worldwide
August 8th, 2018, I went to Thailand for the highest skydiving constitution in Asian. At the time, when I put on heavy equipment, I was super nervous, so I paid hundreds percent concentration on training. All set down, I followed the coach to get on the helicopter and had a big swallow before taking off. On the way to five thousand inches high, my hand still stuck the edge of seat tightly. It's the real time when I hardly moved right to the open door, my foot suspended in the midair and smash wind make me hard to breathe. Without struggle, I was pushed to jump with closing eyes and opening mouth. Actually, I screamed loudly but heard nothing. The parachute opened in seconds successfully and everything went as well as training. When I stood steadily on the cloud, I touched the soft clouds, astonished by the beautiful view of Phuket Island---golden-green fields are surrounded by the sea blue, trail of the train intersect through the landscape, cars running on the roads are as tiny as ants moving foods. Swinging back to the ground, I was so proud of myself and at the same time, I was so excited about the astonishing views in the sky.

Dream come true!
January 20, 2018by: Emelie - SwedenProgram: HorseWorks Wyoming Horse Ranch Vacations & Internships
I had been dreaming about going to a working ranch for ten years before a finally took the decision to book a plane ticket and go! And how I fell in love, with the people, all the animals, the ranch and the Wyoming sky! I absolutely loved it! Being a part of everyday life on the ranch and getting involved in all the work that needs to be done on a ranch. Horseworks Wyoming has become a second home for me, and the people I met there are all like an extended family. That’s why I went back there for the following two years! And I will definitely go back a forth time!
Riding the range
January 20, 2018by: Ulrike HoehneProgram: HorseWorks Wyoming Horse Ranch Vacations & Internships
HorseWorks is nestled among sage, rocks and hills in beautiful Wyoming. If you are looking for solitude and if you want to be away from city lights and noise this is the place to be. It doesn't get more peaceful and quiet than this. The horses roam free and are being wrangled every morning before breakfast. What a unique experience to drive a herd of horses in the early morning light. After feeding and watering calves and colts and collecting chicken eggs, you usually go riding on one of the wonderful horses. There is one for every type of rider. And sometimes you can get a quick ride in after dinner before the sun sets. At HorseWorks you get down and dirty. This is not a luxury vacation! There is always work to do and every helping hand is needed and welcome. Build a cabin, fix the fence, haul hay, do dishes ... Learn about horses with the wonderful host MaeCile who will teach you to connect, join up, trust. Not only will you become a better ranch hand and teamplayer, you will definitely become a better horseman/woman and rider. There are always dynamic, energetic and fun loving people at the ranch so it never gets boring. Together you can ride out to stay the night at Cow Camp or take trips to the nearby Cody stampede, the hot springs in Thermopolis, or the rodeo in Meeteetse. Don't forget Yellowstone Park! MaeCile will gladly lend you her van. And if you want to stay in, enjoy a quiet evening watching an amazing sunset, thumb through the library, play the piano or exchange "gifts" with MaeCile: reflect and share your most memorable moment of the day - for me it was hard to just pick one! So I had to go back ...
