Cross Exchange: Christian Work Exchange Abroad
Program Overview
Cross Exchange is the Christian alternative to secular work-exchange platforms like Workaway and Worldpackers. Christian hosts give travelers room and board. Travelers give an agreed amount of help back: yard work, repairs, childcare, church or community projects. No money changes hands.
A short-term mission trip often costs $2,700 or more. A faith-free work exchange skips the shared-faith community you want. Cross Exchange sits between the two. Around $800 to $1,300 covers a month abroad, and your host provides the room and meals. Trust sets it apart: every host professes faith in Christ, signs a Statement of Faith, and meets staff over video before going live, where staff confirms who they are for extra safety.
You don't need to be Christian to travel, only open to learning. Members live in more than 25 countries. Start at crossexchange.org!

FAQs
Frequently Asked Questions
Get answers to all the most common questions about Cross Exchange.
How does a Cross Exchange work exchange work?
A work exchange trades your time and abilities for accommodation. You give your host an agreed amount of help — gardening, teaching, cooking, childcare, or maintenance — and in return you get a place to stay and usually meals. No money changes hands. You experience a new culture, travel on a small budget, build skills, and make friends around the world.
Do I have to be a Christian to take part?
No. Travelers don't sign anything, but you should be a Christian or open to learning more about Christianity. Travelers opposed to Christianity won't find this a good fit. Every host signs our 7-point Statement of Faith, so you stay within a shared-faith community. Travelers must be at least 18.
What does it cost, and what does my host cover?
Cross Exchange does not charge any fee - our platform is completely free to use. You pay for your transportation to the host's home and your own personal purchases. Your host provides lodging and meals. Hosts may never ask a traveler for payment.
How do you vet hosts, and is it safe?
Staff personally meet every host over video before the host goes live, confirm their identity, and view the living quarters. Every host signs the Statement of Faith. You can read reviews of hosts, and we remove bad actors. If you'd rather not travel solo, bring a friend, and weigh your familiarity with the area and language before you go. Our Safety page has more info.
How long can I stay, and how do I get started?
Most work exchanges run one week to six months, and you and your host agree on the length. Check the host country's visa rules first. To begin, create a profile at and complete verification, then start contacting hosts.
