Discover the vast and fascinating continent of Asia while you get involved in community construction projects in the landlocked and mountain-dominated landscape of Nepal. Depending on the needs on the ground at any given time, you will work alongside community members to help deliver basic needs such as water security initiatives or renovating schools to establish suitable learning environments. Water security: Unsafe drinking water and unhygienic sanitation practices can cause widespread health problems in the community. You may be involved in building rainwater harvesting tanks. School renovation: Schools throughout Nepal are often extremely basic, and you will help make them more effective as learning environments.

The Fuller Center for Housing

With 1 out of 4 people living below the poverty line, many families in Nepal manage with only the basic necessities. These families are compelled to build homes using natural resources such as unfired mud bricks, stones, wood, and even hay. During cold winters, rainy days, and hot summers, these families have very little protection against the elements. The Fuller Center for Housing in Nepal is actively working in the village of Trishuli, which sits in the foothills of the Himalayas, to build safe, decent, and affordable homes for these families in need. Participants will have a unique opportunity to work alongside homeowners and other locals in one of the most picturesque locations on Earth. In addition to providing safe housing, these trips create jobs for locals, support the local economy, and offer a life-changing experience for all involved. If you have a heart for combining service, travel, and experiencing new cultures, then this trip is for you!

Globe Aware's Nepal program is based in the lush valley of Chitwan, 60 miles outside of Kathmandu. This is a region where traditional mountain life and a variety of exotic wildlife reign. Your fully packed schedule will have you working three full days on either or both of these projects. Teaching As a volunteer, you can work in a school developed to provide free or near-to-free education to children below the poverty line. Help teach subjects like English, Art, Music, and more. You can also provide tutoring to students with learning difficulties, helping them learn essential problem-solving skills and build their confidence by playing sports and games. Renovation You can focus on renovating old homes, which are falling apart and in desperate need of repairs, and building hygiene stations. Many of these homes belong to families with low incomes and are unable to afford the repairs themselves. In 2015, Nepal experienced a 7.8-magnitude earthquake. Aftershocks are followed by another earthquake just days after. These disasters left many people homeless or with homes badly in need of repair.

Contribute to a School and Community Maintenance Project that offers a unique taste of Nepal life and the opportunity to make a real difference in people's lives at a community level. Friend’s for Asia's most varied project, the program gets participants involved with all kinds of tasks to help enrich and improve the lives of locals. Nepal remains one of the poorest countries in the world. Schools and other community facilities, where they exist, are basic and often in need of repair. Our Nepal volunteers work closely with teachers, local families and community leaders in Kathmandu or Chitwan to repair and maintain schools and other buildings. Volunteering in Nepal - A Day In The Life Daily life in this project revolves around the routines of your host family, providing a unique experience that no tour operator can offer. Nepali families typically rise early. Breakfast is taken with the family before volunteers head out for their day's work. There is no such thing as a typical day in this project, with tasks ranging from painting walls to fixing leaky taps. Evenings are typically spent with the family who will often be joined by visitors to share the evening meal.

In this project, we are helping the forest community and the Senegal village of Kavre district near Banepa. After the earthquake, a lot of buildings were destroyed, and the local population needs help in rebuilding the village. We'll be assisting in developing effective agricultural methods; we will do environmental awareness and forest conservation work; we'll work together with local people to build a multi-purpose community house; we will be involved in construction work. The community house will also serve as a shelter in emergencies, a youth club, and a public medical exam room. We'll build an area for seniors, a garden near the house, and a rooftop for the meeting room. Other construction projects include making a water tank and rebuilding the Hindu temple. We will also build a much-needed wall around the community school and repair wood shelters for the village. In the nearby forest, we will build a fire line together with the local people. We'll prepare and perform plays aimed at raising awareness on environmental issues, hygiene, and emergency procedures during earthquakes. We'll also work with local women to empower and prepare them for the workforce.
