Volunteer in Cambodia with World Endeavors

World Endeavors offers exciting programs that allow participants to experience Cambodia while contributing to the community in a meaningful way. Volunteers can choose from a variety of immersive, unique, and rewarding community engagement projects, including Temple Conservation, Mangrove Conservation, or teaching children from impoverished backgrounds at a remote school. Once known as the Khmer Empire, Cambodia is perhaps best known for its monumental temples, especially Angkor Wat. It is a country of incredible beauty, scattered with these temples, fertile rice fields, and a rich and interesting history. Following its independence from France, Cambodia experienced years of civil war, turmoil, and political corruption, as well as suffering from its involvement in the Vietnam War. Despite this dark history, Cambodia is an extraordinary country and has prevailed due to what has been described as the unbreakable spirit of the Cambodian people.

Ethical Volunteering in Cambodia

The Globalteer Cambodia Community Project is located in the town of Siem Reap, near the UNESCO World Heritage Site of Angkor Wat. The program works with carefully selected independent partner projects in and around the city. Globalteer works with projects that provide free supplementary education programs, vocational training, and access to free healthcare and nutrition. We also work with projects that develop sustainable agricultural programs for their communities as well as with a specialist clean drinking water project that drills wells for some of the poorest villagers in the region and installs highly effective water filters to prevent the spread of often serious and sometimes fatal water-borne diseases. The program focuses on the poor and vulnerable, helping them and their families to establish long-term solutions to their needs through education, healthcare, nutrition, and income generation.

Rural School Teaching in Samraong, Cambodia

Participate in an amazing village school project that was completely built by volunteers under the supervision of local management with in-depth knowledge of the local challenges and opportunities. Providing free education, the school now holds over 200 children from nearby villages who eagerly rely on the support and care provided by the many volunteers and local staff, which makes this place so special. Students attend regular public schools where their opportunities to learn English are limited. These public schools operate in shifts, with one group attending in the morning and the other in the afternoon. This schedule allows children to attend our school during their free time—those in the morning group can join our afternoon sessions, and vice versa. What sets our school apart is that the children attend voluntarily, and they genuinely enjoy their time here. Samraong is found north of Siem Reap, on the border with Thailand. You can reach the rural village in around 4 hours by car, but it may take longer during the rainy season. This rural location allows greater cultural immersion while living like a local and gaining a deeper travel experience.

Make a real, lasting impact on the lives of children and people from village communities by participating in a range of projects. These include repairing homes in indigent areas, assembling wheelchairs, and interacting with students in a local school. Cambodia is one of Southeast Asia’s most fascinating countries. Siem Reap and the Angkor Wat temple complex are among the country’s top tourist draws; however, most Cambodians don’t benefit from the blossoming tourism industry. A large percentage of people still live in poverty and children are in need of attention. With your participation in this volunteer program, you’ll have the opportunity to make a difference in any way you can. The Volunteer Vacation program of Globe Aware is based in Siem Reap. You’ll live in a simple hotel setting together with other participants. Accommodation amenities include running hot water, electricity, and flushing toilets.

Volunteer at a Marine Conservation NGO in Cambodia

Marine Conservation Cambodia (MCC), a community-based NGO, runs a range of research-focused programs. One of our initiatives is the Marine Mammal Project, which focuses on studying two endangered dolphin species and the critically endangered dugong. Volunteers assist with data collection by joining boat- and land-based surveys and contribute to individual identification. Our Seagrass Project involves underwater surveys in which volunteers collect essential data on seagrass meadow composition and health, documenting the species found around Koh Ach Seh. Additionally, the Seahorse Project aims to gather vital data on local seahorse populations. In addition to research activities, volunteers participate in beach and underwater cleanups, removing trash from the sea and island shorelines to support a healthier marine ecosystem. MCC operates in the Kep Archipelago—on Koh Ach Seh, a small tropical island close to the border between Cambodia and Vietnam. From here, we work closely with local authorities to support the enforcement of Cambodia’s second Marine Fisheries Management Area, a marine protected area established to preserve local marine biodiversity.

Sustainable Development Volunteering & Leadership Internship

We have a community development project in rural Cambodia where circular economy initiatives support a free education center for impoverished youth. We offer free classes to the community, as well as help them gain access to higher education and resources. Our school is supported by the production of recycled products & bamboo straws, an organic skincare line developed from our permaculture farm, and wellness retreats. We seek volunteers and interns to help us develop our educational curriculum for students, assist teachers, work on our organic farm, develop strategies for selling our programs, create sustainable systems in our eco-pool and eco-building projects, and work on sustainable leadership with our Environmental Initiatives Level Four class. There are many aspects of our program where we could use more hands. We like to develop a personalized mission for all volunteers and interns to maximize impact and create a clear mission that utilizes individuals' skills.
