Siem Reap Education & Community Volunteer Program

Program Overview

In Siem Reap, Cambodia, tourism dollars from Angkor rarely reach the communities that need them most. This volunteer program addresses that gap directly, placing participants in locally led education and community development work alongside Buddhist monks, women, children, and other underserved groups. It is one of the most authentic ways to contribute meaningfully in Cambodia — not through a large international charity, but through an independent, locally run NGO with deep roots in the community.

The program is ideal for English-fluent adults who want hands-on experience supporting education in a real-world context. No prior teaching experience is required. Volunteers assist local teachers as native English-speaking role models, lead enrichment activities, and support gender-equality workshops and health and nutrition sessions. Projects span primary schools, two Wats (Buddhist temples), a community education center, and an NGO run by monks.

A typical week runs Monday to Friday, roughly 35 hours, with morning and afternoon/evening sessions and a midday break.
