Memory
January 06, 2026by: Oscar Smith-Freitag - United StatesThe time I spent on this adventure is something I will never forget. I won't forget the amazing people and places we visited. no matter what I know I will hold this experience I won't forget, and there won't be another like it. The Classes were great as well as the sail handling as well. Thank you for the amazing time I and my freinds had
Coming Home on Argo
December 28, 2025by: Samantha Spielman - United StatesI would 100% recommend this trip to anyone who is interested in adventure, trying new things, and being a part of a team. When I came across Seamester online, it just felt right from the beginning, and I knew it was something I wanted to do. Actually, going on the trip was even better and like coming home. A value of mine is living life to the fullest, enjoying the small things, and I want to live a life where at the end, I know I did everything and felt everything. I have never felt as alive and so at home as I did on Argo. It is hard to describe all the emotions I've felt over the past 90 days. I have never felt so close to people and myself as I did on Argo. I have learned to love people in a deeper way and gained a new appreciation for everything. I am extremely grateful for all the lifelong friendships made. I am proud of myself for taking the jump and who I've become through the experience. If you share any of the same interests and are considering doing a Seamester, I urge you to do it because it will change you in ways you can't even imagine.
Seeing the world on a boat!
December 27, 2025by: Teagan Banyard - United StatesSeamester was an amazing experience. It challenged me in so many ways including physically and mentally, and I grew so much as a person in several different ways. I loved seeing the world on a sailboat and it truely was a once in a lifetime opportunity.
The trip of a lifetime
December 14, 2023by: Robert Peters - United StatesThis has been the most amazing trip of my life just now finishing up and cannot believe the experience I have gained from traveling. The traveling, sailing, academics all of it as a whole is something I will never forget for the rest of my life. From traveling the streets of Rome to diving the blue waters of Dominica nothing compares to a trip of this caliber. The academics have been great especially seeing the things you learn about in class as we are diving or sailing is amazing. Straight from classroom to using the skills or topics in the real world. 10/10 would do this trip again and wish it would never end.

Be embraced by a different culture
July 07, 2023by: Brendon M.Program: CIEE Summer Language and Culture in Palma de Mallorca
I would be very likely to recommend CIEE Study Abroad in Palma de Mallorca, Spain to a friend or peer because it presents a great opportunity to learn about a certain subject and be embraced in a different culture.
Voyage of a Lifetime
December 31, 2022by: Rachel L - United StatesThis experience completely altered the course of my life. I have learned so much from my fellow students and staff and therefore can without a doubt say that this was the best decision I have ever made for myself. My new perspectives and outlook on life are indescribable, and I hardly recognize my old self. My favorite memories are the little moments: a private laugh across the cockpit, staying up with another watch team an extra 30 minutes, skipping through clouds on top of a mountain, a giant stride, a smile, a hug, a squeeze. Throw yourself fully into this experience because it is only what you make it. It's crazy what happens when you let go and surrender yourself to everything and everyone around you, and what better place than the ocean!

Studying abroad with CIEE was…
January 27, 2020by: Kaysie S. - United StatesProgram: CIEE Summer Language and Culture in Palma de Mallorca
Studying abroad with CIEE was the best experience abroad I could have asked for. While abroad I always felt that I had people to turn to in times of need and they always made sure that we felt comfortable and safe in our temporary homes. They truly treated us as family and welcomed us into their program with open arms. CIEE is the best!

Just Incredible. Strait up Amazing.
December 18, 2018by: James Robinson - United StatesThe Sea|Mester program is truly a one of a kind experience. Students sail to a variety of destinations getting to explore each location with some of your new found best friends. From day one, everyone, students and staff alike, are so kind and energized for the voyage ahead. Everyone becomes friends with each other so fast and the relationships only strengthen as you explore, live, sleep and learn with each other for the duration of the semester. Sea|mester could not be more correct when they claim that “there is no room for passengers on our vessels, only crew members.” This is what I loved about the program because each and every student is vital to the success of the crew and plays an active role in operating the vessel. On the first passage students were already trusted with the helm. By day 30 students were completely self dependent and capable of leading a sail raise. The level of trust granted by the staff was more than I could have ever expected. I would strongly recommend this program to anyone who might be interested. There is truly no experience required as everything taught onboard starts with the basics so anyone, of any background, can be just as involved as the rest.
What a trip
September 08, 2018by: oliver Kokenge - United StatesThis summer I spent 40 days crossing the Atlantic ocean with some of the most amazing people I have ever met. The passion and energy that the Sea|Mester crew brought to S/Y Argo is what made my trip so special. I highly recommend any Sea|Mester program to anyone who loves to explore, sail, or wants to push themselves to do something simply extraordinary.
The best time ever in my life
July 22, 2018by: jacob Alonzo - United StatesProgram: Cooking Programs in Spain
Cooking in Spain was by far one of the most amazing things I have ever done. I left Spain with a high level of confidence not only with my ability to both speak Spanish and cook but also with myself . I made a number of connections with people from different states and countries, and I still keep in touch with almost everyone I met. The friendships I made throughout this experience have made an incredible impact on my life, and I learned so much about myself through this experience. Not only was Hemingway a fun experience, but I also learned so much about Spanish culture through unique experiences like wine tasting courses, cooking classes, and music demonstrations. One of my favorite parts was living in shared apartment.
A summer to remember
December 27, 2016by: Carly Widmeyer - United StatesProgram: CIEE Summer Language and Culture in Palma de Mallorca
Hi! My name is Carly and I studied in Palma in summer 2016. I was abroad for two months- one in Dublin and one in Palma, and I can tell you that I wished I had stayed another term in Palma. There is something about the sunshine, the city, and the friends you quickly make that make this place feel like home. When I look back at my time spent in Palma I am so thankful, and I wish I could go back for just one more day. But the beautiful thing about it is that I can't, it will forever be a memory that I cannot duplicate. I met some really special people in Palma, both in my program and outside of my program. I was studying tourism in Palma, while most others were studying Spanish. So, if you are planning to come to Palma and you know little Spanish, do not worry. Antonia and others are there to help you, as well as teach you a little bit about the language as you go. If you are studying Spanish, you will have an amazing time being able to communicate with the locals and improve your Spanish! All of the teachers are very caring, and they understand that you are new to the country. I enjoyed my class here in Palma very much. Perre is the best! One thing that I regret was not getting to know my homestay family more. She was not home often, so it wasn't my fault, but I do wish I had made a greater effort to spend time with them. It was a really special thing to have someone open up their home to you. I still remember the view from my bedroom window. It was bittersweet to say goodbye to the place you called home the past month. One recommendation that I have to anyone studying in Palma is to PREPARE! Before you arrive, do your research on where you want to visit, what you want to do, the foods you want to try. Because when you are there it seems like time is flying and it is harder to make set in stone plans. So do as much as possible! Make the most of everyday, and fill it with what YOU want to do. Try not to let others constantly tell you where to go and what to do. It is your trip, and you deserve to enjoy it. Lastly, I just want to say that Antonia and Kara were truly angels on this trip. I do not know what I would do without them. They helped me to feel safe and comfortable when I was halfway across the world, so, thank you so much! Anyone and everyone should travel abroad while they are young and have the chance. And if you chose to do so, please choose Palma! You will fall in love with the beaches, the cobble stone streets, and the people around you. #choosePalma

Palma 2015
December 19, 2016by: Kristy McClammer - United StatesProgram: CIEE Summer Language and Culture in Palma de Mallorca
I studied abroad in Palma de Mallorca during the Summer of 2015, and it was a summer that changed my life. I didn't feel that my Spanish was anything to brag about when I left the US, but my experience in Palma gave me more confidence and experience than I ever could have imagined. The staff at CIEE, specifically Antonia, gave me all of the support and guidance I could ask for, while still allowing me to learn from my mistakes. My host mom, Catalina, was a joy to live with, and taught me so much about the culture and language that I truly felt like I was a part of her family. She took me to a dance class in the city and invited me to dinner with her friends. There was always plenty to do in and around Palma - riding bikes along the beach, nights out at the Ruta Martiana, climbing Bellver Castle, taking the train to Soller, or a weekend trip to Paris! My summer in Palma de Mallorca taught me so much and made me feel much more confident in my Spanish speaking abilities. I loved Spain (and Palma) so much that I returned to study in another part of Spain the following semester, and brought my mom to Palma so she could see how beautiful it was. I would highly recommend studying abroad in Palma through CIEE. It was the scariest, most educational and inspiring summer I have had to date.

My study abroad experience in Palma
December 09, 2016by: Kara - United StatesProgram: CIEE Summer Language and Culture in Palma de Mallorca
I absolutely loved my time in Palma! The program is small, so you really develop a close relationship with all of your classmates, teachers, and program administrators. My host family was phenomenal as well. Palma is an incredibly unique city; of course it offers the culture of Spain with a Mediterranean touch, but there are numerous cultures from all over Europe that come to Palma as well. There were always plenty of activities going on around the island, and I always felt safe there. I would highly recommend this program to anyone looking for a tight-knit study abroad community in an incredibly diverse and beautiful city.

Palma de Mallorca: finding my new home
December 07, 2016by: Dakota Tangredi - United StatesProgram: CIEE Summer Language and Culture in Palma de Mallorca
My name is Dakota Tangredi, and I recently studied abroad in Palma de Mallorca during Summer 2016. I was involved in the program for two terms (8 weeks total from June to August), but visited Barcelona and came back to Palma before flying home during my 9th week outside of the program. As an Environmental Science major, I was initially attracted to the program because they offered a Marine Biology Course which could be applied to my major course work. From the beginning of my application to the end of my experience in Palma, I was so fortunate to be supported from all angles: by my Palma study abroad family, Antonia my coordinator, my wonderful professors, and my home-stay dad, Carlos. When I arrived in Palma, I was incredibly nervous, but Antonia made me feel at home, and began to challenge my Spanish-speaking abilities almost immediately, engaging with me in Spanish conversation and getting to know me on a very personal level. During the week of orientation that followed, I was introduced to an incredible group of students who had previously studied abroad with CIEE in Gronigen and Dublin. Over the next 4 weeks, this group came to be my family away from home. We did everything together, hiked, explored, enjoyed night life, and spent quality time as a group through excursions put together by guardian angels and CIEE staff. The course work was a wonderful addition, as my Marine Biology class was able to snorkel and swim in the beautiful natural areas Mallorca has to offer. The professors were engaged, knowledgeable, and had substantial experience in academia as well as the program itself. In terms of my homestay (I highly recommend this housing option if you would like to develop your Spanish-speaking ability), Carlos was understanding and accepting of my dietary needs (vegetarian), and came to be my support system when I felt homesick or needed an ear to bend. Outside of the program I was able to be very independent and explore different towns in Mallorca. The bus system is easy to use, and the Island is very accessible. Not to mention, flights in Europe were cheap, and offered a great way to travel to different countries while I was in the program. The second four weeks of my experience were more intimate as the group shrunk from 20 members to 5. Although I missed the students from the previous program, I was able to further refine my Spanish in the Spanish course I took, and the intimate class size helped me improve substantially. I loved the program because the culture fit my personality. I'm laid back, and enjoy community and collective activity. The program lends itself to this type of interaction, and Spanish culture is very complimentary to group-bonding. As a result, Mallorcan people are kind, and fun to be around. Just like any abroad experience, your success in the program and appreciation for travel is set by how much you invest. I got a lot out of the program because I took up CIEE on the multiple opportunities they offered, and pushed myself to be uncomfortable and grow as an individual. That being said, Antonia, and the wonderful group I was lucky enough to meet made my amazing experience possible. And for that, I'm forever grateful. Abrazos y paz, -Dakota
50-Day Atlantic Crossing
September 29, 2015by: Kevin ChapmanThis program was both an excellent learning opportunity and a life-changing experience. I was able to learn seamanship and nautical science under experienced sailors while living at sea. I saw places few ever visit and from a perspective unlike that of a typical student abroad, and I immersed myself in a unique culture - a ship at sea - spurring not only social development but also personal growth. Some of my fondest memories were formed on my voyage and I left with a refined character and a genuinely new outlook on life. I cannot speak highly enough of the program and recommend it without hesitation to anyone with a sense of adventure.
The best thing to know is that Seamester is a once in a lifetime experience
April 24, 2015by: Kelly SwartzbaughI chose Seamester because I was able to visit multiple countries and continents in the same semester! I also wanted to learn how to sail, so the sail training and scuba instruction were huge benefits! Seamester is so interesting because it takes a unique person to want to board a sailboat with a group of strangers and cross an ocean! The staff and students onboard are so amazing! Each person had such a unique story and we all came together to from a cohesive, working family. The team work and communication skills Seamester developed in each of us were enough to make the trip worth it.. let alone the knowledge and experience! We rode camels on the beaches of Morocco, went zip lining in Spain, saw the Coliseum in Rome and hiked mountains and beaches of many islands from the Mediterranean to the Caribbean! Seamester was so much more than a study abroad experience. I met my best friends, changed my career path and now I work everyday in a field that I love. I will never stop exploring and adventuring and I recommend Seamester and studying abroad to everyone I meet!
