Foreign Language Study Abroad Programs in Germany

Study German Language, European Studies, and Sustainability in Lüneburg, Germany through the program offered by the University Studies Abroad Consortium. The program is ideal for students who want to learn German and focus on European Studies, especially Germany’s role in the European Union. The Lüneburg program offers courses from three academic areas: German Language, Sustainability, and European Studies. The program’s intensive language approach lets students complete up to two years’ worth of university language studies in one semester. Students can also take additional courses in Political Science, Intercultural Communication, Literature, Culture, History, and Economics. These courses are taught in English or German and contribute to a well-rounded curriculum. Due to the global health status worldwide, USAC is making programmatic changes to summer, fall, and yearlong programs, and some options might not be available. The Freie Universität Berlin International Summer and Winter University (FUBiS) is an intensive academic program through which students can earn credits that may be counted towards their degrees at their home institutions. FUBiS sessions run for three to six weeks and take place both in summer and winter. Students can choose between subject courses (mostly taught in English) and German language and culture courses. The 50+ subject courses are offered within the fields of Architecture, Art History, Politics, Law, History, Media Studies, Economics, Sustainability, Literature, Philosophy, Entrepreneurship, and Music. German language and culture courses are available for up to five different proficiency levels (A1 to C1). Field trips are an integral part of all our courses. In addition, FUBiS offers excursions such as to the Berlin Reichstag building and a river boat tour through downtown Berlin or day trips to Potsdam and Leipzig.

Have the opportunity to study abroad by joining one of our Non-Profit, Low Cost, Direct Study Programs in these top destinations – Japan, South Korea, New Zealand, Australia, Germany, Italy, Ireland, Scotland, England, and France. These are offered throughout the year to university-level students from around the globe, with the option to enroll in a weekly, monthly, summer, quarterly, semester, or academic year term. Stay in low-cost housing on campus or at a nearby apartment or hostel. You can also stay with a host family to experience the local way of life in your host country. You can earn academic credit for completing any of our study abroad programs. Upon completion, you will receive (or request) transcripts, certificates, or letters of attendance. The National Registration Center for Study Abroad center in Munich, Germany, is an acknowledged language institute, and has been teaching German to foreigners since 1984. The curriculum is approved by the Bavarian Ministry of Education, and all instructors are experienced with university degrees and special training in teaching German as a foreign language. Classrooms are well equipped, and students have access to the library, computers, and the cafeteria. Teachers receive continuous training, and are well acquainted with the latest developments in the area of teaching German as a foreign language. The relationship between staff and students is that of partners and friends. As a result, members of the staff are not only available to discuss matters of German language, but also offer support with leisure activities.

The Middlebury School in Germany offers cultural and linguistic immersion through a rigorous curriculum and adherence to the Middlebury Language Pledge. By promising to speak only German abroad, students have the best chance of acquiring fluency and actively engaging in the local environment. While in Berlin, students attend Freie Universität and enroll in an in-house core course. Through volunteer or internship work, extracurricular activities, and coursework, program participants can learn the language in the capital city of Germany.

Although Berlin is an international city, you will find it much easier to understand your surroundings and enjoy your stay if you have acquired some basics in German. This is still an essential language for business, science, and the arts and is Europe's most widely spoken language. Plus, it's an easy language for English-speaking students to learn. Our Start German course addresses the needs of beginners. Its content follows the standards of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR) for level A1.1 (beginners with no prior knowledge). Participants of this Summer School must have a B2 level in English (or equivalent) and at least one year of university experience. Working professionals are also welcome to join.
