AIFS Abroad in Berlin, Germany (FUB): Semester

Spend a semester or academic year in Berlin, Germany, with AIFS Abroad. You’ll earn up to 15 credits per semester through a variety of courses studying at Freie Universität. Courses are offered in English and German. If you’re interested in giving back to a local community in Berlin, information on volunteer opportunities will be available once you arrive. Live in either a homestay or student apartment (with a supplemental fee). Homestay students have their own rooms and receive breakfast and dinner daily from their host family. Apartments are single or double occupancy with a shared kitchen, bathroom, and on-site laundry facilities. They will receive a meal allowance, and all students will receive a Mensa card to subsidize the cost of on-campus dining. Cultural and social activities include: • Walking tours • Boat trips • German cooking classes • Visits to the many historical and cultural landmarks in Berlin • Day trip to Potsdam • Day trip to Quedlinburg or Dresden • Week-long trip to a destination in Europe (to be determined just before the start of the semester)

With IES Abroad Berlin, students can take their German language skills to the next level. IES offers them the opportunity to take classes at our partner university, Humboldt-Universitat zu Berlin. Programs are available in the fall, spring, and entire academic year. Some students can participate in internships in and around the city to broaden their international work experience. Live and study in Berlin, one of the greatest cities in the world and the center of German business, politics, and culture. The minute you step off the plane in Berlin, you can feel its energy. It’s a place of new ideas, where sustainable technology and modern design are a way of life, and art galleries can be found on nearly every corner. Study Abroad in Berlin with FUBiS - Winter and Summer

The Freie Universität Berlin International Summer and Winter University (FUBiS) is an intensive academic program through which students can earn credits that may be counted towards their degrees at their home institutions. FUBiS sessions run for three to six weeks and take place both in summer and winter. Students can choose between subject courses (mostly taught in English) and German language and culture courses. The 50+ subject courses are offered within the fields of Architecture, Art History, Politics, Law, History, Media Studies, Economics, Sustainability, Literature, Philosophy, Entrepreneurship, and Music. German language and culture courses are available for up to five different proficiency levels (A1 to C1). Field trips are an integral part of all our courses. In addition, FUBiS offers excursions such as to the Berlin Reichstag building and a river boat tour through downtown Berlin or day trips to Potsdam and Leipzig.

Fall Semester in Europe

On this semester abroad, you study as you travel! Along the way, you will enjoy delicious cuisine and uncover the inner layers of many cultures. Our journey takes us through Western Europe, with each destination acting as the perfect academic backdrop to explore the reasons we act, govern, and live in today's world. This semester will open your eyes when you see works of art in the Louvre, climb the peaks of the Swiss Alps, walk through the markets of Florence, and visit the Berlin Wall. This semester will send you home with the experiences of a lifetime, and a deeper understanding of who you are.
