If you want to immerse yourself in Spanish, away from large crowds of tourists in major cities, head to the western highlands of Guatemala. Our language school, La Escuela de la Montaña (The Mountain School in English), is nestled in a coffee plantation and lush mountains. We offer one-on-one instruction, tailored to your level and interests, for 4 hours each day. Classes run from Monday to Friday, either from 8 am - 12:00 pm or 1:00 pm - 5:00 pm, and take place in a laid-back outdoor setting. Your first day begins with an assessment, which helps the teacher gauge your language abilities and develop a personalized study plan for the week. Lessons combine grammar, vocabulary, conversation, practice in writing and reading, and homework. We also organize weekly activities, such as lectures on cultural, social, and political topics as well as visits to an organization, community, or farm.
