Sri Lanka - Wild Elephant Conservation and Research

Discover the mysterious ways of the gentle giants of Sri Lanka, as you spend your days observing and trailing elephants in their natural habitat. This project will give you the skills to identify different elephants, collect behavioral data and do trail mapping, to ensure the conservation of the elephants. Volunteers will also conduct Human-Elephant Conflict surveys, which aim to identify problem areas and work with the community to resolve them through education, as well as conduct workshops on the environment for local school children. In addition to monitoring the elephants, volunteers will also experience birding and observing other animals in the region. In addition to the wildlife, volunteers will learn more about the Sri Lankan culture through village visits and an initial orientation.
