CIEE Summer Internships CIEE Summer Global Internships are 6-credit, 8-week programs with full-time working hours (approximately 30 hours weekly) and a seminar. CIEE Summer Intern and Study Abroad are 6 to 7-credit, 6-week programs with a part-time internship (approximately 20 hours weekly), a seminar, and a 3-credit academic course. CIEE Semester Internships CIEE Semester Global Internships are 9 to 13-credit, 12-week programs that feature a full-time internship (approximately 30 hours weekly), a seminar, and an optional 3 to 4-credit academic course online. CIEE Semester Intern and Study Abroad Programs are 12 to 14-credit, 12-week programs that feature a part-time internship​ (approximately 20 hours weekly), a seminar, and two academic courses.

Unlike other "cookie-cutter" internship programs, we secure customized internship placements for our students. This program is ideal for a mature, autonomous student who is comfortable traveling abroad alone with remote support as opposed to local support. We do all the work that goes into securing you your dream internship. Participants will benefit from getting an internship that fits their interests and requirements. API offers students a wonderful opportunity to experience the Portuguese culture and way of life through study or internships abroad in Lisbon. With a spectacular Atlantic coastline, Portugal sits on the sunny southwest corner of Europe, but this tiny nation—a pioneer in maritime exploration—occupies a central place in world history. Portugal has been at the crossroads of cultures for three thousand years, reflected in the national language, food, music, and arts. Lisbon has exceptional nightlife, award-winning beaches, and great cuisine and is ranked as one of the most affordable and safest among European destinations. Whether you are into music, futbol (soccer), surfing, art museums, or history, you’ll find a warm welcome from the Portuguese who are eager to share their unique culture with you!

This all-in-one semester begins with one month traveling Spain by train, followed by two months in Barcelona where you choose your pathway. You’ll build soft skills (communication, confidence, problem-solving), hard skills (Spanish, digital tools, cooking), and leadership abilities focused on positive impact. Choose one of three pathways: - The Internship Pathway offers full-time hands-on experience, real projects, and strong hours for future credit or professional goals. - The Entrepreneurship Pathway combines a part-time internship with entrepreneurship labs, mentorship, and Spanish classes, ending in a Shark Tank–style pitch. - The Special Interest Pathway lets you blend part-time internship, volunteering, and classes, or focus fully on volunteering plus Spanish or creative electives.
