Farmers’ Economic Empowerment Internship

Farmers are some of the most important professionals in the world. As the saying goes, “you can survive a day without lawyers or doctors, but you cannot without a farmer.” While farmers serve a vital role in society, they are often neglected and not prioritized in economic interventions and legislation. In this internship, the Institute for Global Studies prepared placements for you on organizations that propel economic empowerment to our farmer-heroes. This program helps you be a part of the local sustainable food movement. Complete a rewarding internship in your country of choice – the Philippines, Australia, the USA, or Mexico, among many others. Immerse yourself into the interesting cultures, traditions, and customs in your host country.

Program: Volunteer Medical Internships in the Philippines

10

I had an extremely amazing experience in the Philippines. I got to not only see and observe the patients but also interact with them and go into both minor and major surgery rooms to see people getting cut up. For example, I got to see births of babies in a surgery room and although it was a little new to me and a bit grotesque, it made me want to become a doctor even more in that it looked really exciting. I also really liked the food here. The food on: the streets, restaurants and home- they were all so delicious. Although I couldn’t finish it all, one of my favorites was the halo halo being an ice cream based desert. The people here are also extremely kind and are very open minded. Everyone in my host family are extremely kind and made efforts to speak my language (Japanese) when I’m the one who should be doing so. The staff in projects abroad are also very caring and helpful. I got a little sick one day , and all the staff came to help me and I felt very much at home. I really don’t want to leave.
