Dive into a unique volunteer opportunity with GoEco's Private Island Marine Conservation Experience in Belize. This program allows you to immerse yourself in the stunning beauty of Belize's marine ecosystems while making a tangible difference in their preservation. As a volunteer, you'll use your diving skills to contribute to protecting the delicate coral reef ecosystems that provide food, protection, and shelter to a myriad of marine animals. These ecosystems are under threat due to various factors, and your involvement can help mitigate these threats. Throughout your time on the island, you'll engage in a variety of marine preservation tasks, ranging from survey dives to species identification. You might even have the chance to photograph whale sharks. But the experience isn't all work. You'll also have the freedom to choose how much you want to get involved. All dives are voluntary, so when you're not diving, you can relax in a hammock with a good book, fish from the island, or engage in sea kayaking or stand-up paddle boarding.

This internship program is tailored to fulfill your academic requirements and personal and professional learning goals. You can select flexible durations of 3, 4, 6, or 8 weeks. You are then paired with projects that align with your academic requirements, career goals, and personal interests while also supporting local organizations in Belize. Typically, interns work 30-35 hours per week, applying classroom knowledge to real-world challenges in various fields such as education, conservation, entrepreneurship, social service, and other areas as requested. This experience is designed to enhance important employability skills, including collaboration, independence, and intercultural communication. A typical 4-week program includes living with a host family for deep cultural immersion, along with curated excursions focused on cultural, environmental, and historical topics. The Belize Raptor Center (BRC) is the leader in raptor conservation and rehabilitation in Belize. This internship supports rescues through medicine, diet, rehabilitation, enrichment, and training. After students have been introduced to the center, each will receive their own “pen pal” for the full internship. They will study with their pen pal and work closely with the raptor team to directly plan and implement enrichment for their bird. Other important topics covered are basic husbandry for raptors, diet preparation, training, live clinical care and studies, mystery cases, making a shaping plan for an education bird, and more! This internship includes 60 exotic animal veterinary hours and students will receive an official certificate of “Clinical Veterinary Care, Rehabilitation, and Raptor Enrichment.” No University credit is included. No experience is required and students from all over the world may apply!
