In this program, you will be given the opportunity to change the lives of women in Kathmandu, where sexism and equality are big issues. Women are less likely to be employed and/or receive an adequate pay. This program aims to mitigate the effects of this discrimination by allowing you to empower these women and show them that they matter. You will teach English (and a few other subjects – see below for more details) and help these women thrive through enhancing their confidence. Volunteers’ responsibilities may include teaching the women how to use a computer (basic skills), teaching them about various health topics, talking to them about the rights that they have and/or conducting activities and workshops.

Terraced rice paddies, fluttering prayer flags, dew-drenched mornings: discover the beauty of the Himalayas, experience life in remote mountain communities, participate in a meditation retreat, and study traditional arts with local masters. Since ancient times, travelers, monks, merchants, artists, and warriors have passed through Kathmandu in their journeys across the great Himalayan range. Some never left, and today, ethnic groups peacefully coexist in the peaks and valleys of this dynamic country. Nepal’s rich cultural diversity provides a strong foundation for a larger conversation about the underpinnings of identity, community, and spirituality. Our summer abroad program weaves a path between rural and urban environments and different religious communities as we explore how ancient traditions can survive in a rapidly developing society. During our time in the Kathmandu Valley, we meet with local activists and experts who share their insights on Nepal’s history, politics, and culture. Moving into rural Nepal, we trek through lush green forests and stunning valleys, before settling into a homestay with subsistence farmers.

Ready for an unforgettable medical journey in the shadows of the Himalayas? Join our High School Special in Nepal, designed specifically for students ages 15-18. Based in the vibrant region of Bharatpur, you’ll live and work with a global group of teens, gaining up to 50 hours of professional experience. This internship is all about discovery. You’ll shadow expert doctors and nurses through various hospital departments, attending lectures at a local teaching hospital to see how medicine operates in a developing country. You’ll also get hands-on in workshops, mastering skills like checking vitals and anatomy, then head out to local schools to conduct health screenings and teach children about dental hygiene. When you aren't at the hospital, you’ll be immersed in Nepali culture - from learning to fold your own "Momo" dumplings to exploring local markets. The highlight of your trip is an epic weekend safari in Chitwan National Park, where you’ll swap your scrubs for binoculars to spot one-horned rhinos and maybe even a Bengal tiger. With 24/7 staff support, it’s a safe and life-changing way to explore your passion for medicine.
