The San Sebastian program opens an academic window on the Spanish and Basque people, introducing you to the rich diversity of Spain and offering a truly multicultural experience. San Sebastian has the highest level of bilingualism of any of the area's cities: all of its inhabitants speak Spanish, and one-third speak Basque. This program is ideal for students interested in Spanish or Basque Studies. Our intensive language approach allows you to complete up to two years of university language coursework in only one semester. The language courses can be complemented by our electives in related areas such as history, literature, culture, and art. Spend a semester or academic year in Seville, Spain, with AIFS Abroad! Earn up to 15 credits per semester studying abroad at Universidad de Sevilla. Courses are taught in English and Spanish. The Contemporary Hispanic Studies Program requires no previous study of Spanish, while the Hispanic Studies Plus Program requires completion of at least three semesters of college-level Spanish or an advanced or above level of Spanish. Volunteer opportunities in humanitarian and non-governmental organizations, as well as work experience initiatives in private companies and institutions, are available for you to make the most of your semester in Seville. You’ll live in a homestay with a local family or in a shared room in an apartment. Homestay students will receive three meals per day from their host family. Apartment students can purchase meals at the residence canteen, which requires direct arrangement upon arrival. The IES Abroad Madrid Program is designed for those who want to experience the vitality of Spain! Live in its capital city and through course enrollment at the Universidad Complutense de Madrid (UCM), one of the country's most distinguished universities. Students enroll in Spanish language courses as well as courses in their academic major. This program is perfect for students with intermediate-level or higher Spanish skills who seek an authentic and immersive experience. Away from the crowds of American students who opt for more popular destinations, like Barcelona or Madrid, with us, you will find yourself fully immersed in the Spanish language and culture of La Coruña, Spain. At the beginning of the semester, you can optionally take an intensive Spanish language course to help prepare you for the semester abroad. You can take classes in your field of interest at an accredited public Spanish university. Most classes are taught in Spanish alongside Spanish students. While some courses are offered in English, we highly recommend taking on the challenge of studying in Spanish. Seville, the capital of Andalusia and Spain’s 4th largest city, is between the Sierra Morena mountains and the Atlantic Ocean. Enjoying culture from the Romans, Visigoths, Muslims, Jews, and Christians throughout the ages and serving as the focal point of the Spanish Renaissance, the city is rich in history and tradition. When visiting Seville, you can experience the city as it was centuries ago. The lovely winding streets and active public squares of the Barrio Santa Cruz allow insight into the oldest portion of the city, and the list of monuments and historic sites is seemingly endless. The Tower of Gold once served as a landmark for arriving ships, and its Cathedral houses the tomb of Christopher Columbus. The 12th-century Moorish palace, the Alcázar, is the oldest palace fortress still used by European royalty. While studying, exploring the streets, visiting museums, or soaking up Spanish culture, API students in Seville gain a broad education in the Spanish language and civilization.

The Multidisciplinary Studies Program offers semester-long courses in either English or Spanish in business, communication, economics, history, political science, and many other areas. The courses offered only in English are computer science, biology, chemistry, psychology, and others. Spanish language courses are offered at six levels, including Spanish for the health professions, Business Spanish, Spanish conversation, Spanish phonetics, Spanish reading and composition, and Spanish/English translation courses. Our Spanish language classes have a class size range of 10 to 16 students, while all other classes have a minimum of 10 and a maximum of 24 students. Classes are held from Monday to Thursday and may occasionally have Friday activities. In addition, transcripts for completed courses are issued by Pablo de Olavide University. Students who score at the Advanced I level on their Spanish placement exam may enroll in up to two regular university courses. If the courses with the Spanish students are conducted in English, this language requirement is waived. Please note that a GPA of 2.75 or higher is required to participate in the program.
