AIFS Sevilla Fall 2023

One of my professors at the University of Sevilla told us that he studied abroad in Sevilla when he was younger and loved it so much that he just decided to stay permanently, and I definitely understand why. I spent the fall 2023 semester in Sevilla through AIFS and I loved it! AIFS, specifically my resident director, Edu, really made my time there a once-in-a-lifetime experience. Edu has a ton of experience, is super helpful, and is very cool. He went the extra mile to make sure all of us were set up for success. Even small things like showing us where our classes were made a huge difference and were things that students from other programs didn't benefit from. Some of my favorite moments were the activities that AIFS organized, including a paella cooking class and a flamenco class. I also loved how easy it was to travel through Europe from Sevilla, and Edu had a lot of great trips planned for us. Something that took some getting used to was how hot the weather was through October, but it was worth it having 60-70 degree weather in December! If you're thinking about studying abroad in Sevilla with AIFS, I would totally recommend it. Make sure you keep an open mind, try new things, and put yourself outside of your comfort zone. AIFS was there for me every step of the way and I would recommend them for anybody interested in studying abroad, especially in Sevilla!

Life Changing Semester

When I signed up for AIFS in Sevilla, I didn't realize it would completely change my life. I went into the program not knowing anyone, and I remember feeling so scared when my parents dropped me off at the airport. However, when I arrived in Sevilla I was met with a caring team of staff, and they helped me get ready to take on the adventure. I met people from my program on my first night there who would become my best friends in the world. I traveled to 10 countries on my time off from school. I surprised myself by taking all of my classes in Spanish, and learning so much about the language and culture. I attended La Feria and Semana Santa, and got to visit some of the most historic landmarks in Sevilla. By the end of my trip, I didn't want to come home. The AIFS team did a fantastic job getting us prepped to leave the US, and also assisting us with any challenge that popped up while we were in Spain. Edu & Cristina were so dedicated, charismatic, and kind, and they made me feel so at ease while I was there. Sometimes I think back to that scared girl in the airport, wondering what the next four months would bring, and I wish I could tell her that the best four months of her life were about to begin. This program provided me with the best balance of cultural immersion, language practice, and community I could have asked for I can't recommend this program enough!

My home away from home

My experience studying abroad in Seville was one that I'll never take for granted. It truly was the experience of a lifetime. I opted for a homestay, which was the absolute best decision for me! My host mom was the kindest, most generous woman I have ever met. It was the hardest goodbye at the end of the semester, but I am still in contact with her! Living in a homestay provided me with a cultural immersion experience I will never forget. AIFS has various course offerings that appealed to me at the university. My favorite was Teaching English to Spanish Speaking Students. As an education major, this was an unforgettable experience for me in which I got to be the English teacher for a small group of student in one of the primary schools in Seville. Between my homestay, courses, friends, and travel experiences, my semester abroad in Seville was truly the best 4 months of my life.

Best experience ever, I want to go back

Choosing AIFS for my study abroad experience in Sevilla was a decision I'll forever be grateful for. The journey, from inception to conclusion, was nothing short of amazing. The program leaders – Edu, Raquel, and Fran – were not just guides but also friends! They were always there for us whether it was for medical assistance, travel planning, or a friendly chat, their warmth made leaving them a bittersweet moment. My stay at the NODIS student apartment was a luxurious and independent experience. With amenities like a rooftop pool, gym, and great dining options! The program leaders' did a great job of matching roommates. Diverse immersion activities, from walking tours to paella classes and intercambios, enriched the experience. The Intercambios were my favorite for connecting with locals around my age and I even got to hang out with them outside of it! I chose to take all my classes in spanish and were the best spanish professors I’ve had & understanding of our travel priorities. Sevilla has a special beauty, especially during Semana Santa and Feria. The warmth and interest of the locals added to the city's charm. 100% recommend both Sevilla AIFS program for a fulfilling and culturally immersive study abroad adventure.

You just had to be there!

Studying abroad in Seville with AIFS was the best decision I’ve ever made. This program changed my life and opened me eyes to a world of travel, culture, and new friends. My program advisor in Seville was WONDERFUL and took his time to get to know us, make us feel comfortable in a new city, and was always a call away. I was able to visit 9 countries while abroad since the way the program is set up makes it easy to go on weekend trips. I cannot wait to go back and visit Seville someday. Thank you AIFS for giving me friends I will have forever, and an experience I will keep with me forever.

This was the best experience of my life. I learned so much in my classes and outside of them. The Spanish classes really emerged me in the language and the professors wanted us to learn and do good in classes and in the community. The advisors were the best and taught us about the culture and the area. I was able to feel like Sevilla was my home and make life long connections.

Amazing Fall Semester

I got to spend a lovely fall semester in Sevilla! I was paired with an amazing host mom who would cook us delicious meals. I was located near the city center but far enough away to experience local life. The school itself was amazing and the professors took the time to give us plenty of recommendations, which was super nice of them. The program director also gave us many great travel tips to make the most out of our time and money! Besides the school and the host family, the people I met were also super cool. You get to meet people from all over the United States. I will say it was a bit hard to meet local Spanish students, however, if you make the effort to go out to linguistic exchanges you will meet plenty. The program itself included weekend excursions around the south of Spain as well as one linguistic exchange. I thought the excursions were well planned out giving us enough time to go on our tour and explore the city on our own. My favorite was Granada since I got to meet other study-abroad students there. Highly recommend Sevilla - a beautiful city with amazing people!

Seeing Sevilla

My experience in Sevilla was so amazing. I took a variety of classes that helped me be immersed in Spanish culture. I lived with a host mom and one other person from AIFS, which was an amazing experience. My host mom was so nice and although there sometimes was a language barrier, we always found a way to make things work. Edu and Christina (the resident directors) were so helpful with every question that came their way. The excursions and day trips were so much fun and provided opportunities to explore more of Spain. I can't express how thankful I am that I chose AIFS for my study abroad experience!

The best few months of my life thus far

My study abroad experience in Sevilla, Spain with AIFS during the spring was nothing short of outstanding. To begin, the city of Sevilla itself was everything I could've wanted living in a decently sized city for the first time in my life. Everything was walkable from my apartment, the features of the city gave me endless, beautiful sights to explore, and the weather was AMAZING all the time (at least until it got a bit too hot by May). However, what made this adventure work as well as it did was the AIFS team in Sevilla and the thought and care they put into the structure and facilitation of the various activities we did. Without their guidance with classes or help with speaking Spanish or even with simple things like sending letter back home, this experience would've not been nearly as memorable or enjoyable as it turned out to be. If you want to study abroad in Spain and are trying to decide on a city, I highly recommend you consider Sevilla.
