Program Overview

This program is perfect for students with intermediate-level or higher Spanish skills who seek an authentic and immersive experience. Away from the crowds of American students who opt for more popular destinations, like Barcelona or Madrid, with us, you will find yourself fully immersed in the Spanish language and culture of La Coruña, Spain.

At the beginning of the semester, you can optionally take an intensive Spanish language course to help prepare you for the semester abroad. You can take classes in your field of interest at an accredited public Spanish university. Most classes are taught in Spanish alongside Spanish students. While some courses are offered in English, we highly recommend taking on the challenge of studying in Spanish.

If you need additional Spanish practice before the semester starts, you may combine our Summer Spanish Immersion program with the semester or year abroad program. You will be issued an official transcript, and we can assist you with obtaining transfer credit at your home institution.

Adding a customized internship at a Spanish company alongside your studies is possible.

Great Program and Very Immersive

I have definitely had a great time studying with UDC and Linguistic Horizons. The arrangements and trips provided by Nicole are always very fun, safe, and great new experiences to have. My host family is very nice and caring, and I have greatly improved my Spanish speaking, learning, and understanding skills through communicating with them daily. Nicole is very easy to reach and helpful in answering all questions. Would highly recommend!

I had a unique an amazing internship opportunity!

I couldn't have asked for a more unexpectantly unique opportunity. Nicole and Soraida from Linguistic Horizons were able to find me an internship in psychology that would be very difficult to obtain on my own. Internships in healthcare are very complicated to obtain, as most are only open to students who already have more than a bachelor's degree. Nicole and Soraida arranged for me an internship within a physiotherapy clinic where they allowed me to construct my own psychology interventions under the supervision of the physiotherapists and occupational therapists from the clinic. Though difficult at first, I learned so much and it helped me gain more trust in my knowledge. In addition, this internship helped me decide to pursue a master's in psychology, something I was still not sure whether I wanted to do. Linguistic Horizons also helped me find a very comfortable and accessible place to live and arranged literally everything for me so that my move abroad was as smooth as possible. I had an amazing and super unique experience, and it was all thanks to the incredible help and support from the staff of Linguistic Horizons. My internship placement was in A Coruña, Spain which was also a very unique place to be and best of all, it was not a typical touristic place, so it is a full Spanish language and culture immersion. The city is cozy and has beautiful landscapes with amazing views to the Atlantic Ocean.

Best Year of my life

I studied Business classes during my year abroad in La Coruna. All my classes were in Spanish which was challenging for me at first; but, as the semester went on it got easier to understand. When I arrived, I had taken a couple years of college level Spanish but I was by no means fluent. About halfway through my first semester, I was pretty fluent. The city has great nightlife, really delicious tapas bars and beautiful beaches. I loved that I was one of only a few students from the US in the whole city; because, it really gave me the opportunity to meet Spaniards and other international students from all over the world. I would highly recommend studying abroad in La Coruna!
