The January in Shanghai program is designed to give participants a deeper understanding of China as it emerges to take a leading role in the global economy. In partnership with Guangxi Normal University (GXNU), CLI offers an immersive China Study Abroad Program designed for students aiming to earn college credits while deeply engaging with the Chinese language and culture. This comprehensive program integrates academic coursework with group and one-on-one Mandarin lessons, ensuring personalized and effective language learning. Additionally, students immerse themselves in Chinese culture through various activities and travel excursions, exploring the scenic beauty of Guilin and beyond. They can choose between standard and intensive tracks, allowing for a tailored focus on language acquisition. The program also offers the option to join the "Pengyou Program," fostering local friendships and connections to enhance the cultural experience. Students can opt into English-taught courses or dedicate all credits to Chinese language study. Flexible program options include semester-long experiences as well as intensive winter and summer sessions to fit different academic schedules and goals.

Discover China while living with a local family through our Au Pair Cultural Exchange Program. This program offers young people the opportunity to experience authentic Chinese life, improve cross-cultural communication skills, and create meaningful connections with host families. As an au pair, your main responsibility is to provide an English-speaking environment for the children through games, storytelling, and fun educational activities. The role focuses on cultural exchange and interaction rather than traditional childcare, and au pairs are not required to do household chores. Most of our host families are located in Chengdu, a vibrant and welcoming city known for its rich culture, incredible cuisine, relaxed lifestyle, and the world-famous giant pandas. Au pairs live with their host family, have a private room, and become part of everyday family life. The program includes Mandarin language courses, visa support, airport pick-up, monthly cultural activities, and 24-hour local support. With free time each week to explore the city and travel around China, this experience allows you to grow personally while discovering one of the most fascinating cultures in the world.

The Middlebury program in Beijing is designed to ensure that students immerse themselves in an environment that rapidly develops their Chinese language and culture. Program participants take their courses in Chinese, including a one-on-one tutorial and content-based electives. They get to practice their language skills with fellow students and Chinese roommates in relaxed settings outside the classroom. The Middlebury School in China works with CET Academic Programs to offer cultural and linguistic immersion through a rigorous curriculum and adherence to the Middlebury Language Pledge.
