IPBio researches amphibian reproductive habits and embryology in captivity. In addition, we conduct regular inventories of amphibians using pitfalls distributed throughout the reserve. Education in biology would be a huge benefit in this program, but it is not a requirement. Our projects are: - Tadpole Monitoring: IPBio collects tadpoles and monitors their development to study the embryological process as well as the presence of a deadly fungus called Bd. - Amphibians in Captivity: IPBio has species of frogs in captivity to study their mating habits. - Amphibian inventories: IPBio wishes to understand the distribution of amphibians, understand their reproductive habits, track species composition and well-being, and potentially find new species. IPBio has 6 different sites, each with 5 pitfalls. Volunteers will need to open the pitfalls for 48 hours and visit the sites to collect data such as species, photographs, size, any diseases found, or other relevant information for statistical analysis. This role demands volunteers who can deal with highly exhausting activities, as a lot of hiking is required in difficult conditions.

Experience hands-on field research related to the conservation of savannah ecosystems in the Kingdom of Eswatini (formerly called Swaziland). Although savannahs are well-represented in African conservation areas, they are subjected to increasing degradation as a result of human influences, including land use and climate change. Well known for large charismatic game such as elephants, rhinos, and lions, there are a variety of smaller species that are threatened and are arguably more critical to the functioning of savannahs. Depending on priorities and active studies at the time of participation, volunteers may study vegetation, bats, hyenas, small predators (like mongoose, genets, and jackal), rodents, ungulates (such as giraffe and antelope), reptiles, birds, and other plant and animal life in Eswatini’s Lubombo Conservancy. They will examine the interface among commercial agriculture, rural communities, and protected areas in this Southern African region and learn from our experienced conservationists. They will be based at our Savannah Research Centre and camp in the private Mbuluzi Game Reserve, working at the Mlawula Nature Reserve and Hlane Royal National Park located nearby.
