Based on the Caribbean island of Carriacou, you’ll take part in hands-on marine conservation projects that raise awareness of local marine species, support coral health, and aid in reef restoration. You’ll also help inspire greater environmental consciousness by engaging with local schools. As a volunteer, you’ll play a key and active role in all areas of our conservation work. While living on this tropical island, you’ll have the chance to explore lush rainforests, relax on white-sand beaches, and build lasting friendships with people from around the world. It’s a rewarding and adventure-filled experience where your efforts will directly contribute to the protection and preservation of vital coral reef ecosystems. As Sir David Attenborough once said, “I can mention many moments that were unforgettable and revelatory. But the most single revelatory three minutes was the first time I put on scuba gear and dived on a coral reef.” Be part of something meaningful—join us and help make a lasting impact!

Gain valuable insights and experience a meaningful program through this opportunity offered by Working Abroad Projects in the island nation of Grenada. Project is focused on the conservation of the near-extinct leatherback sea turtle. Duties as a conservation volunteer will therefore include night patrols to protect against poaching, flipper tagging of unmarked females, carapace (shell) measurements, egg counts, nest relocation, nest excavations, assisting with arranged community outreach projects with schools and groups, and camp maintenance. The assistance volunteers provide on this project means that they will directly contribute to the reduction of illegal egg poaching, whilst gaining hands-on experience of sea turtle conservation and bringing together local communities around the leatherback. Ocean Spirits, the non-profit organisation that run this project, has been operating within Grenada since 1999 and has in that time protected marine sea turtles on both a national and regional level. The organisation works closely with many international scientists, and the data the organisation has collected on sea turtles has proved invaluable for conservation efforts.
