Take your academic learning abroad with the Netherlands program of USAC. It is based in The Hague, one of the United Nations cities and a sophisticated city on the North Sea Coast. It is one of Europe’s greenest cities, boasting exciting outdoor activities amidst historic buildings and sites. Participation in our study abroad program takes you to The Hague University, a vocationally oriented institution that offers undergraduate and postgraduate courses ranging from Information Technology to European Studies—some of which are taught entirely in English. Enjoy staying on a campus surrounded by water and located in close proximity to the main railway station and city center. Most colleges in the University are in a building complex designed to provide each college with its own study area, computer access, and eating and work spaces. The complex has a state-of-the-art library, sports hall, cafeteria, and large auditorium.

Here, you can participate in a professional academic research project and learn the language and culture of the Netherlands. Leiden University is one of 11 leading research institutions in Europe participating in the Research Study Abroad Program. Research opportunities exist in many fields, including liberal arts/humanities, social sciences, biological sciences, physical sciences, and engineering. Gaining research experience at an undergraduate level will give you invaluable academic experience and set you apart from other applicants when applying to graduate school or research-related work. You will be an active member of the research team! Participants can choose from one of the two program options (each worth 30 ECTS, which is equivalent to 15 U.S. semester credits).

Explore the complexities and paradoxes of gender and sexuality in the Netherlands and Morocco. In Amsterdam, study how gender and sexuality intersect with race, class, and religion, while interrogating the city’s reputation for tolerance through theory, policy, and lived experience. Learn directly from activists, academics, and practitioners, and visit organizations such as COC Netherlands and the Prostitution Information Center. A two-week excursion to Morocco highlights how religion and culture shape gender and sexuality in a Muslim-majority country. SIT’s program in the Netherlands offers the opportunity to earn a minor in global gender & sexuality studies. How do the lessons of the past teach us about society today? These questions are at the heart of European culture and society, and hinge on difficult questions about European history and conflict. Founded by the Romans, controlled by the Spaniards, besieged by the French, and occupied by the Germans, the picturesque city of Maastricht personifies how European history has served as a prologue to the present. At the crossroads of three borders and cultures, it is the perfect setting for students to investigate Europe’s past, present, and culture by exploring artistic movements and social history, as well as philosophical and cultural ideas, from a European perspective.
