In our Bag Making & Leather Arts course, veteran Italian artisans teach students how to construct a bag from start to finish. Learn how to make sewing patterns, cut, skive (to reduce the thickness), and sew the leather applying the traditional rules of Italian craftsmanship. The goal is to produce high-quality leather bags for which Italy is well known around the world. During this time, students will have the opportunity to fully develop their creativity, mastering every leather-related technique, exploring all fields of employment, and manufacturing methods (both hand sewing and machine sewing). Depending on the length of the program, students will be able to produce a wide range of leather works, from small accessories and handbags to interior components and furniture. Our hands-on training course consists of lessons with the professor and individual practice in the school leather laboratory. This is an interdisciplinary education program designed for students interested in deepening their creative talents and gaining the necessary skills for admission to the best Italian universities and academies. Through this course, you will have access to the network of Accademia Aldo Galli and IED Italia. Academic Foundation year in Italian Creativity Art & Design represents authentic excellence in artistic education. One of its primary objectives is to promote the Made in Italy culture, particularly focused on fashion, design, visual arts, and heritage preservation. The bilingual course, recognized by the Ministry of Education, Universities and Research (MIUR), is aimed at all those who are interested in accessing 1st level academic courses in the arts, design, fashion, and heritage conservation but do not reach the 12 years of schooling necessary for admission. Our Florence program is one of Abbey Road's most popular study abroad programs for nearly twenty years running. Our students benefit from the residential living experience in the heart of Florence and 24/7 support from our program staff of professional artists, chefs, photographers, and art historians. From daily classes in Italian Language, Photography, Studio Art, Tuscan Cuisine, and Art History to activities ranging from museum visits to Top Chef, we challenge our students daily to try new interests, expand their horizons, and make the most of this exceptional summer opportunity. We give our students fresh, high-quality food from local markets. Our culinary staff members shop for our students, they conduct Tuscan cuisine workshops where students learn to make some of the Florentine delicacies. World Class Programs offers high school students the opportunity to study abroad in Florence, Italy. Our summer program is designed for teens from all academic backgrounds who are excited about immersing themselves in Italian culture and lifestyle. This pre-college program offers various course study options, including Art History, Fine Arts, Philosophy, Photography, Architecture, Italian language, and Tuscan Cuisine. Students can choose a major course for daily focus (Monday to Friday) in the mornings for three hours. Then, they attend elective classes, each lasting two hours, three times a week in the afternoons. On weekends, they go on day trips around Italy to explore cultural differences from city to city. The Fall 2026 program in Rome, Italy, is a unique opportunity to explore the world’s greatest capital through the prism of art, photography, and film. During this semester-length program, you will explore Rome. Learn international film history, theory, and aesthetics and study film directors as well as photography throughout the program with Professor Michael Stinson. In addition, study Art History with a local instructor. The Eternal City of Rome is one of the original centers of cinema and host to the legendary film studios of Cinecittá. The weeks leading up to the holiday season are a wonderful time to be in Rome – the weather is crisp, holiday markets are open, and vendors sell roasted chestnuts on the street corners. When not busy studying film, you’ll explore all that Rome has to offer and learn to capture stunning images of your trip against a backdrop of over two thousand years of art and architecture.
