Your CIEE Semester Intern and Study Abroad program in Berlin lasts 12 weeks and features three key components: A part-time internship with an international organization (approximately 20 hours per week), an internship seminar, and two elective courses taught by CIEE faculty or online through CIEE’s global academic partner, ASU. IES Abroad's Berlin Winter Quarter - Business, Sustainability & Innovation program takes place from early January to mid-March. It takes full advantage of the city’s entrepreneurial spirit and Germany's position as an economic powerhouse and global leader in sustainability. The English-taught courses in topics such as Business Ethics, Marketing, and Global Business are viewed through the lens of Berlin and Germany, using local startups and corporations as case studies. You’ll learn firsthand the significant challenges involved in balancing financial success with sustainability. You can also supplement your Business studies with courses that deepen your understanding of European and German politics, economics, and culture. The city will be your classroom. Imagine studying Global Business and then taking a trip to BMW's manufacturing plant in Munich. Or learning about Business Ethics and then attending a talk at the Potsdam Institute of Climate Research. All of your classes will include course-related trips that take you into the real world with visits to startups, businesses, and organizations.

The Freie Universität Berlin International Summer and Winter University (FUBiS) is an intensive academic program through which students can earn credits that may be counted towards their degrees at their home institutions. FUBiS sessions run for three to six weeks and take place both in summer and winter. Students can choose between subject courses (mostly taught in English) and German language and culture courses. The 50+ subject courses are offered within the fields of Architecture, Art History, Politics, Law, History, Media Studies, Economics, Sustainability, Literature, Philosophy, Entrepreneurship, and Music. German language and culture courses are available for up to five different proficiency levels (A1 to C1). Field trips are an integral part of all our courses. In addition, FUBiS offers excursions such as to the Berlin Reichstag building and a river boat tour through downtown Berlin or day trips to Potsdam and Leipzig.

On this semester abroad, you study as you travel! Along the way, you will enjoy delicious cuisine and uncover the inner layers of many cultures. Our journey takes us through Western Europe, with each destination acting as the perfect academic backdrop to explore the reasons we act, govern, and live in today's world. This semester will open your eyes when you see works of art in the Louvre, climb the peaks of the Swiss Alps, walk through the markets of Florence, and visit the Berlin Wall. This semester will send you home with the experiences of a lifetime, and a deeper understanding of who you are. Hochschule Furtwangen University (HFU), in collaboration with the ICD Academy for Cultural Diplomacy, offers a program structured according to the traditional university format. The two academic years are divided into four semesters: students complete the first two semesters at the Center for Cultural Diplomacy Studies (CCDS) and the final two semesters at Furtwangen University. - Semester 1 consists of three mandatory modules & two facultative courses - Semester 2 consists of the Professional Development Training program & 2 facultative courses - Semester 3 consists of mandatory modules, including Academic Research & Writing - Semester 4 involves writing a final thesis on a related topic (subject to review & mentor approval) and submitting it at the end of the semester All courses are taught in English so proficiency in German isn’t necessary. If you’re a non-native English speaker, you must be able to submit proof of at least a CEFR B2 level. A BA degree is also required, though you’re eligible to join the pre-enrollment process as a current undergraduate as long as you have good standing.
