An experience of a lifetime of memories!
August 01, 2026by: preston stuart - United StatesProgram: USAC CHINA: Shanghai-International Business Studies
My study abroad trip to Shanghai was one of the best experiences I’ve ever had. The city is full of energy, with an amazing mix of modern skyscrapers and rich cultural history. Every day felt like a new adventure, whether I was exploring local markets, trying authentic Chinese food, walking along the Bund, or visiting beautiful temples and gardens. One of the most rewarding parts of the trip was experiencing a different culture firsthand and meeting people from around the world. It helped me become more independent, confident, and open-minded. I also learned so much about China’s history, traditions, and daily life in a way that you simply can’t learn from a classroom.

Wish I could again and again
September 01, 2025by: Jinhua Adair - United StatesProgram: USAC CHINA: Shanghai-International Business Studies
Truly the best experience of my life. I easily fell in love with the city and everything it has to offer. Clean, safe, incredibly easy to get around. Shanghai is very much an international city so if you’re only just beginning to study the language it’s a good place to start. Beyond Shanghai, I also had the opportunity to travel across the country, visiting Beijing, Hunan, and Guangzhou.

Tremendous staff!
July 04, 2023by: Christopher A.Tremendous staff. Environment is like none other and they accommodate well. For Seville, the city has been tremendous and CIEE gives you a proper introduction to this magnificent city. Whether an intern or a student during one of the sessions, you can get along with everyone and overcome the anxieties of a new city
Opportunities to explore
July 03, 2023by: Catherine F.I would be very likely to recommend CIEE Study Abroad to a friend because this program gives you many opportunities to explore the city you are in as well as the surrounding areas. All of the employees are very kind people who will be their to uplift and support the students who are abroad.
Wish I could go back!
April 07, 2020by: Stephanie Boice - United StatesFrom the moment that I applied to the minute I stepped foot of the plane in Shanghai TEAN had always been there to support me with any questions or concerns that I may have had pre-departure. Since I didn't live close to an Embassy they helped me with applying for my China Visa before I left. The on-staff team is always there for you, from the program director to the local students that you may live with if you choose to live off campus whether it be help enrolling into a class or advice on where to go in Shanghai. During our time we were given a lot of cultural immersion opportunities provided through the program free of charge such as a trip to Chengdu and Beijing and various local experiences within the city. Throughout my time I was able to gain a true insight into how it is like to be a student in China. I was able to make a lot of lifetime friends because of this program and I wish I could go back and start over again!
I have had a great…
January 30, 2020by: Maeve G.I have had a great experience, it is organized and comes at a good cost. The staff on-site is very supportive and helpful (as well as Brooke in Portland), but we had an emergency situation and the Portland higher-ups didn't handle it well, nor did anyone answer the emergency number provided to us.
My first experience abroad and I love it here
November 19, 2019by: Alberto R.I feel that CIEE tries to have activities for us and I really do feel that I am learning a lot here. Also everyone here seems really nice and I feel that though we are different a lot of the students seem to have the same mindset and its a good chance to network.
Amazing time in Shanghai
October 03, 2019by: Mei Snow - United StatesStudying abroad with TEAN was the best decision I've ever made. Studying abroad in Shanghai was my first time studying abroad, I have traveled around but not for more than a week or two so living there, I had a lot or worries at the beginning. From the entire application process, I probably emailed 100 times just to ease my stress and TEAN was amazing at responding to emails and making sure I had all the information I needed and more. Once I got to shanghai, I had an amazing time. TEAN orientation was great at really letting us students bond before classes started. I love my shanghai group, everyone was absolutely amazing and they became some of my best friends. Shanghai is amazing for everything you could think of. There are older parts if you like history, there are bars and clubs if you like nightlife, there are cafes and restaurants for every type of food and dessert you could want (even vegan/vegetarian/halal)! TEAN takes you on amazing excursions to different places in China and allowed me the opportunity to do things I never would've thought have. 10/10 you should go, and trust TEAN will take care of anything you could possibly need. They are amazing resources and friends.

My semester in Shanghai was superb
May 31, 2019by: Rugile Kasperiunaite - LithuaniaIt was absolutely worthwhile: I was able to gain a new perspective on various subjects thanks to my peers and professors at Fudan University and experience what it's like to study, work, and live in Shanghai. I fell in love with this city and I don't think I could have picked a better program to go there with.
Well staffed
April 24, 2019by: Taylor K. - United StatesCIEE is very well-staffed and they do everything they can to make sure you have the best experience possible. Everyone is friendly, the rules and guidelines are laid out for you, and the excursions CIEE plans are a blast!!
Fun Program
April 23, 2019by: Sofia H.This has been the best summer of my life. Everything about CIEE has blown me away. Virginia Niera has been an extremely attentive and helpful program director. She and Antonio Romero were both quick to offer help with any issues I might have. The professors, Amador Fernandez and Antonio Rodriguez, taught with enthusiasm and care. Each class genuinely excited and intrigued me. They graded fairly and truly cared about students understanding and learning. We took informative, fun, and interesting trips. They were all well-planned and extremely enjoyable. The tour guides we had, Adrian and Alicia, were knowledgable and made the tours very meaningful. The trip to Morocco really opened my eyes to other cultures and ways of life. Finally, my homestay could not have been better. I really got close to my host family, and I felt like I had a place in Seville where I could be totally comfortable. I have already recommended this program to two of my friends, and I plan to encourage more to do it if they w

Amazing Experience
March 14, 2019by: Sierra D.Study abroad is something that everyone needs to be apart o at least once in their lifetime, and CIEE was a great way to do it. I think I would recommend this because we’re given a place to reside in a foreign country with people who have no problem helping you at the drop of a pen. The CIEE community becomes your family and makes you feel like you’re at home and always offer things to do for free or at least help to make your study abroad experience as great as it can. It’s also nice that you can choose from different programs and either be a student for half and an intern for the other half, be an open campus student and stay for an entire semester, or every 6 weeks choose a new home. It’s an amazing experience for a reasonable price but an opportunity and of a lifetime.
Summer in Shanghai!
January 17, 2019by: Gianna Gronowski - United StatesTEAN was without a doubt the best option when choosing a study abroad program. Going to a foreign place can be scary, especially when you don't know anyone and don't speak the language. TEAN held a predeparture video conference as well as maintained regular email contact and answered all questions I had, no matter how trivial they might have been. I felt confident going into the program, something that wouldn't have happened necessarily without TEAN's help. On this trip, I was fully immersed into Chinese culture, and I even got to do experiences like go see an acrobatics show, ride a river cruise, learn how to make dumplings, and visit the tea fields! I also made friends from all over the world that I still keep in touch with to this day. What a rewarding experience!!

Best experience I could have had abroad!
December 28, 2018by: Elizabeth Chung - United StatesI always knew I wanted to study abroad for a full semester in college and TEAN made the experience as incredible as possible. Right from the beginning of my search process, I reached out to TEAN asking questions and trying to get a feel for the program. They immediately made me feel as though I was choosing the right program because of the quick communication and ease of the application process. While in Shanghai, we had a weeklong orientation in Shanghai that was chock full of excursions and activities to get us settled in China (SIM cards, metro passes, local registration, etc). As for the academics, we were given clear pathways for getting used to our new university and classes that made it such a seamless transition. The TEAN apartment that I lived in for the semester was incredible! I loved being able to live in an apartment that was part of an actual Chinese community so I could fully integrate with the community. Furthermore, the apartment put me smack in the middle of incredible shops and restaurants that I was trying out all the time. Studying abroad can be a stressful process, but TEAN made it so easy for me to enjoy myself and get the most out of this unique cultural experience. If you choose to study abroad with TEAN, you will not regret it!
I want to see more
November 14, 2018by: Chicharlah Muldrow - United StatesProgram: USAC CHINA: Shanghai-International Business Studies
Going to China was my first study abroad experience. Even since I entered college, I wanted to study abroad and my third year I decided to pursue it. And I was not disappointed. I picked China because it’s completely different compared to the States, culturally and traditionally and everything I between. USAC was so helpful with my process of going to China, their website had past students’ personal reviews that I read on and videos which showed me what I was getting in to. The on-site staff was so helpful, encouraging when I first arrive in China. They gave us pointers how to get around the city, their favorite, local restaurants and everything. At the end of my program I was able to make connections with people across the US and people in China. Since coming back to the States at the end of 2017, I have a serious case of travel bug: where I just want to travel more of China, Asia, and hopefully around the globe!!! I just want to explore and see more what the world has to offer :D
USAC Shanghai, life-changing
November 13, 2018by: Angie Willemsen - United StatesProgram: USAC CHINA: Shanghai-International Business Studies
I had an incredible time studying abroad to Shanghai, I was hesitant at first to go since I originally wanted to study in Australia. My biggest regret was only going for a semester, study abroad was an absolute blast. Classes were only once a week, and language classes met 3x which gave my friends and I a good amount of time to explore the city. Shanghai was absolutely amazing, you have the best of both worlds since the city is pretty westernized. I met amazing people. Don't let people suck you into studying in Europe, China is so cheap, and I was able to visit multiple other countries in Asia for incredibly cheap. The food was great and the people are very friendly to foreigners since they are wanting to practice their english. I can't wait to visit Shanghai again.
Great cultural experience
November 13, 2018by: Hong Wang Chan - PortugalProgram: USAC CHINA: Shanghai-International Business Studies
This program allowed me to have a better understanding of the local culture. Local teachers provided a better insight to the local society. Language partners helped me a lot with my language skills and cultural integration while I was abroad!
The best experience
November 13, 2018by: Taylor Nisbet - United StatesProgram: USAC CHINA: Shanghai-International Business Studies
This opportunity to go abroad through USAC gave me the chance to do soemthing I had never done before. Through this chance I was able to go to a foreign country and learn. It was the best experience of my life and I am so glad I went abroad through USAC. The opportunity I had to study abroad was an amazing experience, that I will never forget. I was able to study in a different environment and learning things in this environment made learning so fun. I learned so much while abroad and improved on my speaking as well. I ,also, made friends from the program that I will be close with for the rest of my life. I am so thankful to everyone at USAC that made this a possible opportunity for me.
10/10 recommend
November 12, 2018by: Claire Arakaki - United StatesTEAN made the study abroad process as easy and painless as possible. The staff was very patient and helpful with any questions and concerns I had before leaving. I had nothing but good interactions with everyone in TEAN. They made sure we settled into our host country by taking us to get a SIM card, bank account, class registration and even an internship if you wanted one. Orientation before school was a lot of fun and gives you the chance to make friends right at the beginning of the semester. The friends I made and the experiences I had in Shanghai were amazing and I wouldn't trade it for anything. TEAN's housing was unreal and I will probably never live in such prime real estate again. There were plenty of restaurants and cafes around the apartment making it convenient to hang out with friends and study after school. It was also pretty close to a metro station which made it easy to get around the city. While I was in China, I traveled with TEAN to Beijing and Chengdu. Both trips were expertly planned, and we were able to see most of the cities in a weekend. While we were in Beijing, we went on a sunrise hike on the Great Wall and explored the art district in the city. The hike was one of my favorite highlights of the semester and was a once in a lifetime experience. If you have the chance to go abroad, go with TEAN. 10/10 would recommend.
