Internship exeprience at Environmental Defenders
The internship provided valuable practical experience in biodiversity surveys, habitat assessment, plant identification and wildlife observation at Got Arana and Nyamukino reserves. It strengthened my fieldwork skills and improved my understanding of biodiversity conservation and environmental management.
The living arrangements provided an opportunity to adapt to the field environment and develop flexibility. Although adjusting to a different routine presented some challenges, the experience contributed positively to my personal development.
The internship helped me appreciate the importance of cooperation between conservation organisations and local communities. It highlighted the role of community participation in promoting environmental awareness and protecting natural resources.
Safety was an important consideration during field activities, particularly in remote wildlife habitats. Access to healthcare was also a concern because medical facilities could be far from some field locations. The experience emphasized the importance of timely access to medical assistance. Security was available through the rangers.
Overall, my internship at Environmental Defenders was a rewarding learning experience that enhanced my practical skills, personal development and appreciation of conservation work. It provided valuable exposure to field research and the realities of environmental management.

Great Course
I enjoyed the coursework. I felt it was well worth my time. I did see a lot of editing mistakes in the material, which I think needs to be addressed as this is a course for teaching English. There also wasn’t any real guidance on job seeking. I feel like I have been thrown to the wolves, so to speak.

A first time for everything
There is a difference between studying conservation in a classroom and experiencing it with your own hands. For me, this experience at the reserve was truly a first time for everything, and I enjoyed every bit of it.
From collecting, drying, and handling seeds to working in seedbeds, learning about seed banking, and participating in tree planting and restoration, I got to experience the practical side of conservation that I had previously studied in theory. I began to appreciate the work, patience, and care that go into growing indigenous trees and restoring degraded landscapes.
Wildlife monitoring was equally exciting, especially following the black-and-white colobus monkeys. Seeing animals interact in their natural habitats was fascinating and reminded me why protecting ecosystems matters.
Beyond the conservation activities, living in nature was an experience I will always cherish. Waking up to the sound of birds, breathing fresh air, and being surrounded by nature brought me a kind of happiness that is difficult to describe. Every day offered something new to observe, learn, and appreciate. And for me who likes taking pictures of nature, this was it for me.My phone was filled with pictures of beautiful scenery.
This experience reminded me that conservation is not just something we study,it is something we experience, practise, and commit ourselves to. I came away with new practical skills, beautiful memories, and a deeper appreciation for the natural world.
Sometimes, you may know something in theory, but nothing compares to doing it for the first time. And for me, this was a season of firsts, growth, discovery and joy.

Best time of my loce
This program made 2026 the best summer of my life. London is my favorite city and this program couldn’t have been more perfect. A perfect mixture of education (classes were so much fun, and I also loved our workshops too where we learned about British culture) and free time to explore the city. We also did so much fun things as a group in the city, but you get a lot of free time with your friends. I learned so much in the creative writing classes and all the lessons were fun rather than boring. I really felt like I got to see London inside and out and get a real Londoner experience rather than as a tourist. I also loved our trips to Oxford and Stratford-upon-Avon as well. I made so many friends and many great memories. The staff are also very caring and awesome. Overall, everything about it was perfect and I miss it everyday. Thank you CIEE for this trip of a lifetime!

Graduating Early, Growing Abroad
I had just graduated college two years early, and as proud as I was, I was also scared. So much was changing, and I worried about whether I knew enough to go out into the real world. Looking back, the opportunity to intern abroad came at exactly the right time.
My time abroad taught me so much. It challenged me to live on my own, work in a new place, and step out of my comfort zone. I was the first in my family to have an opportunity like this, which made it especially meaningful, even when I didn’t know what to expect.
The support of the Absolute Program Coordinators gave me peace of mind. I could connect with them about anything, from questions throughout my internship to advice on local coffee spots. Having someone to turn to made a new city feel a little more familiar.
I was also grateful to have a very supportive boss on La Guilde’s communications team. He gave me the opportunity to help with big projects and marketing deliverables I didn’t think I would get to work on as an intern. Being trusted with that work helped me build confidence at a time when I was still questioning how ready I was.
Beyond my internship, I always looked forward to the day and weekend trips our Program Coordinators put together. They were a chance to get outside the city, explore more of France, and take a break without breaking my budget.
I’m grateful for this experience and for the people who helped me feel at ease along the way. I went abroad worried about whether I knew enough for what came next. I came home with more confidence in my ability to figure things out.

Great week of spanish immersion
I had a great week of private classes and cultural immersion throughout jalisco and nayarit. I splurged for a few extras, but know I got the best price. I did one fishing trip and a couple of massages. I felt like it was really welcomed into the community.

My first TFT trip, and definitely not my last!
This trip was honestly one of the best experiences of my life. It was my first TFT program, and I could have not picked a better one. One of my favorite parts was how much of Costa Rica we got to see. We did not just stay in one area and we got to experience different parts of the country. Every single day we had something excited to look forward to, whether it was going on boat rides, swimming, jumping off waterfalls, or tubbing down a river. The trip definitely lived up to the name, but what I loved most was that I could choose when I wanted to step outside of my comfort zone and when I wanted to relax. There was such a good balance between exciting activities and free time. I ended up doing almost all of the activities, and I am so glad I did because looking back, those are some of my favorite memories from the trip. We also had plenty of time to hang out and bond with everyone, which I think is such an important part of the program because you spend so much time with the people you meet. As a picky eater, I was pleasantly surprised by how easy the food situation was. We got to look at the menus and choose what we wanted, so it was never an issue. I made so many amazing memories, and I would recommend this program to anyone looking for an unforgettable summer experience!!

Life Changing Experience!
I cannot say enough good things about my experience with Máximo Nivel in Manuel Antonio, Costa Rica! I came into this program excited to begin a new chapter in my life, and I’m leaving with so much more than just a TEFL certification.
The four-week program is intensive, challenging, and incredibly rewarding. The combination of classroom instruction, lesson planning, observations, and hands-on teaching experience really pushes you to grow and develop your skills. One of the things I appreciated most was how much emphasis the program places on actually applying what you learn. By the end of the course, I felt significantly more confident in my ability to plan and deliver effective English lessons.
I especially want to recognize Russ, who is an incredible instructor! His knowledge, experience, and dedication to helping his students succeed really make a difference. He provides constructive, thoughtful feedback that challenges you to improve while also helping you recognize your strengths. It’s clear that he genuinely cares about preparing his students to become successful teachers, and I couldn’t have asked for a better instructor to guide me through this experience.
What really stands out to me is how much personal and professional growth I’ve experienced in just four weeks. This program challenged me to step outside my comfort zone, develop new skills, and discover a passion for teaching.
If you’re considering earning your TEFL certification, I highly recommend Máximo Nivel. Come prepared to work hard, embrace the experience, and challenge yourself. You’ll walk away with practical teaching experience, valuable knowledge, and memories that will last a lifetime.
I’m incredibly grateful for this experience and excited to take everything I’ve learned into the next chapter of my teaching career!
