Discovering Greece

June 18, 2026Lorien Williamson - United States

Studying abroad with CYA in Athens, Greece was one of the most transformative experiences of my college career. As a Psychology major, I was excited to explore how culture influences human behavior, but I gained much more than academic knowledge during my semester abroad. Through courses in psychology, Greek history, and Modern Greek language, I developed a deeper understanding of both Greek society and the broader cultural factors that shape people's lives. Living in an apartment with three other students from my program created a strong sense of community and led to friendships that became one of the most meaningful parts of my experience. Together, we explored Athens, traveled throughout Greece, and supported one another as we adapted to life in a new country. One of my favorite memories was sitting at the top of the Panathenaic Stadium with my friends, reflecting on everything we had experienced and accomplished during our time abroad. Having previously moved to Los Angeles without knowing anyone helped prepare me for the challenges of studying abroad. The experience strengthened my independence, adaptability, and confidence while encouraging me to step outside my comfort zone. Thanks to support from USC, CYA, and the Gilman Scholarship, I was able to pursue an opportunity that broadened my academic, personal, and professional horizons in ways I will carry with me for years to come.

I grew so much

June 17, 2026Olivia Tennant - United States

My time at Middlebury CMRS was really rewarding. Adjusting to a new academic environment and system was definitely intimidating at first, but I grew to really appreciate the change, especially because of how much it pushed me outside of my comfort zone. Until coming to this program, I didn't realize how quickly I could read and write, and that helped me overcome intellectual/academic perfectionism. The tutorial system was definitely difficult and lots of work, but it felt really good to be taken so intellectually seriously by Oxford tutors, and the system also allowed me to create strong relationships with each of my tutors. By the end, I felt very proud of myself for taking on such a difficult course/workload and realizing that I could still keep up and do well. It built my intellectual confidence and also allowed me to meet some really wonderful people and create some really cool experiences and memories.

I was surprised!

When I arrived at the airport, I was feeling a little overwhelmed and uncertain. Moving to a new country and joining a program like this was a big step, and I had all kinds of questions running through my mind: Would someone be there to pick me up? Was everything really going to work out as planned? Thankfully, the shuttle arrived right on time, and the staff made the transition to our hostel feel seamless and welcoming. From that point on, the experience became the adventure of a lifetime. Our instructor, Nikki, brought incredible energy and enthusiasm to every lesson, making the coursework engaging and enjoyable. One of the most valuable aspects of the program was the opportunity to gain real classroom experience. Being able to apply what we were learning in an authentic setting helped build my confidence and better prepare me for teaching. The program also provided a great balance between learning and exploration. We participated in several excursions that felt like fun field trips, allowing us to experience more of Costa Rica while building connections with our classmates. What stood out most was how supportive and knowledgeable the staff were throughout the entire process. They even helped me navigate my journey from San Ramón to my teaching placement in Guanacaste after the program ended. Their support didn't stop there—they have continued to check in and make sure I am adjusting well to my new school, and I feel comfortable reaching out whenever I have questions or concerns. I have truly enjoyed the teaching position they helped me secure and am grateful for the opportunities this program has provided. Overall, I found the experience to be well worth the investment, and I would highly recommend it to anyone considering teaching abroad.

I real enjoy my time with MOLAC in Arusha, Tanzania

June 17, 2026Marietha Herman - Canada

My experience with MOLAC (Modern Linguistics and African Cultural Promotion Centre) was truly rewarding. The organization provides a unique opportunity to engage with local communities while experiencing the rich culture of Tanzania. The team is welcoming, supportive, and dedicated to ensuring that volunteers have a meaningful and impactful experience. I particularly appreciated the cultural immersion activities, Kiswahili language learning opportunities, and homestay programs, which allowed me to connect deeply with local traditions and daily life. MOLAC creates a friendly environment where volunteers can contribute to community projects while developing new skills and friendships. The staff were always available to assist with orientation, accommodation, and project coordination, making the entire experience smooth and enjoyable. I highly recommend MOLAC to anyone looking for an authentic volunteer experience in Tanzania that combines service, cultural exchange, and personal growth.

Wonderful course!!

June 17, 2026Janina Curtis - United States

I thoroughly enjoyed this course! The content was relevant and my instructor, Sean, was very knowledgeable and personable. He was encouraging and have honest feedback. While the course seemed intimidating at first (a full semester's worth of work in one month), I was able to make it through and I've never felt more accomplished!

All good

June 17, 2026Caroline Scott - Canada

Budget course that punches above its weight! It felt professional from staff to material, but let's not forget that it's still a cheap course, so I'm not going to give it full marks. Some things could be improved but it was great nonetheless. Can recommend as they came through with their promises.

don't hesitate to go

June 17, 2026Freja Larsen - Denmark

My parents were nervous about sending me to China alone, but GAC made it so safe and easy. I stayed with a lovely host family in Beijing who treated me like their own daughter. I learned Mandarin fast, visited the Great Wall, and made friends from all over the world. I came home more confident and independent. If you're a teen thinking about it – just go!

thanks from the crew

Words are hard to find to describe such a unique experience.

June 17, 2026Aliénor de Boucaud - France

My time with African Conservation Experience (ACE) has been an amazing three-week journey, spent alongside a very welcoming and highly skilled team who were always eager to share their knowledge of wildlife, conservation, and their beautiful country. Words are hard to find to describe such a unique experience. During my time at the Shimongwe Wildlife Veterinary Experience, I learned so much about wildlife veterinary medicine in the field. I also discovered what conservation truly means and involves. Some of the most thrilling moments were spent deep in the bush, taking part in wildlife captures and interventions. I will never forget the adrenaline of tracking and managing different species, from sables and kudus to rhinos and agile impalas, often working in tandem with a helicopter to herd and dart them across challenging terrain safely. The adventure didn't stop in the field. The weekends offered an incredible escape into some of the most magnificent, timeless landscapes I have ever seen. Spending time amongst the breathtaking, mystical cliffs of the Leshiba Wilderness and exploring the vast, untamed expanses of the Kruger National Park were absolute highlights that left me in complete awe of South Africa's natural beauty. I came home with new perspectives, valuable skills, and beautiful memories to last a lifetime. I am so grateful to the Shimongwe team and ACE for this unforgettable adventure, one that has been deeply enriching on both a professional and personal level. I already miss it, and I truly hope I will be able to go back soon!

Incredible experience

June 17, 2026Molly Hilts - United States

My experience studying spanish with Maximo Nivel has been one of the best experiences in my life. The people I met, the city of Cusco, the instructors at Maximo- all of it was amazing. If I could stay longer I would, and I did end up staying 3 weeks longer than planned. I highly recommend to anyone wanting to travel and study spanish abroad.

Great course with useful, real life scenarios!

I am very excited to have completed the TTA TEFL Level 5 course. I am looking forward in applying what I have learned during the course and to be a successful teacher/instructor while assisting individuals during their English learning journey.
