The Marine Biology & Reef Conservation internship in Sodwana Bay (South Africa) was an amazing experience! I learned a great deal - had an awesome time and met some wonderful people! It was unforgettable to see the manta rays too!

The thing that I enjoyed the most in the Reserve Management & Research internship was being able to see all of the wildlife that is unique to the area in Kruger National Park, while also being surrounded by nature and actually contributing to something as a visitor to the area; rather than just being a spectator on the sidelines. Personally, this internship gave me the unique opportunity to see animals (that I have only seen in a zoo) in the wild and in their natural habitat. The internship has also given me more confidence in different areas like communication and being social, while also making me more knowledgeable about how people are from different countries, alongside with making friends from all over the world. Professionally, this internship contributed to my development by providing me experience in an area that will be relevant along with completing a project associated in the field. This will help me stand out from others when it comes to job applications and it has given me the edge.

The Reserve Management & Research internship at the Kruger National Park made my future possible. My stay in South Africa exceeded my expectations as I learned so much while I was there, and I couldn't imagine a better experience for me. I stayed for 12 weeks, and each week brought new experiences, excitement, and people. I’ve learned so much about South Africa, reserve management, wildlife, poaching, ecology, and plant life. Before going to South Africa, I was unsure about which direction I wanted to go for my future. It is now crystal clear that I want to work in conservation in Africa.

An amazing opportunity to experience the marine world and form new relationships. Everyone was incredible and I saw and learned a lot about marine animals in Sodwana Bay. On my first ever ocean dive, I got to see a manta ray & it was unforgettable!

My internship exceeded my expectations. I enjoyed the work far more than I thought I would and found myself invested in the project and its future. I was surprised by the amazing location of the camp and the incredible sightings. Mostly my experience was exceeded due to the people and the staff making it some of the most fun I’ve ever had! A once in a lifetime experience that I am incredibly grateful for and will never forget.

Amazing internship! Seeing the wildlife is incredible but the things you learn really make the experience. The more you understand the ecological processes you are witnessing the more you can appreciate how special it all is. I learned a great deal too!

The Reserve Management & Research internship at Kruger National Park in South Africa was amazing! I had perfect pre-departure support before I left home. The internship gave me confidence & helped improve my skills and English language. I love living in the bush as well!

The GIS & Reserve Management internship at the Gondwana Game Reserve was great! I saw everything I wanted to see and learned a lot about QGIS. Learning all of the plants was unexpectedly my favorite part. It was an amazing way to experience the unique mix of flora and fauna in one of the most diverse and rare ecosystems in the world.

I absolutely loved the GIS & Reserve Management internship and the memories I have gained from it will remain with me for life! Gaining proficiency in another software for GIS will greatly help me in my potential future field of work and has boosted my confidence in GIS. My knowledge has deepened and I am more likely to search out for GIS jobs as I feel more qualified for them and ready to take them on. Getting to take part in assisting the management of a game reserve was super fun and incredibly rewarding. It was great that I got to take part in such fun activities whilst also developing my QGIS skills in a way that was informative and enjoyable!

I really enjoyed diving in such a rich marine environment and learning about all the different species that existed there for my Marine Biology & Reef Conservation internship in South Africa. This experience greatly broadened my view of the world and of life in general, and has motivated me to do more meaningful and beautiful things in the future. I also received good support as any questions I had during the planning stage were answered very kindly and on short notice.

My Program Manager was very quick to respond to emails and would even call me to provide support. I loved seeing all the amazing animals not in small cages. They were free to go wherever they wanted which was so beautiful to see. I made such good friends here who i already miss and hope to see again! Doing my GIS & Reserve Management internship gave me more real life experience which will be so useful when finding a job.

I was glad to have Karen as my Internship Program Manager. Not only does she have a strong ethic but she was also familiar with the region and type of tasks I was doing. I enjoyed the Wildlife, Ecology & Anthropological Research internship in South Africa with the exotic environment and interesting natured animals around the camp. Social aspect wise, being with many other similarly aged good natured Europeans and friendly managers definitely made it easy to settle in quickly.

The Marine Biology & Reef Conservation internship empowered me through the hands-on experience, problem-solving skills, and teamwork I developed during the program. I gained confidence in new environments, overcame challenges to strengthened my ability to adapt and learn quickly to thrive outside of my comfort zone to prepare me for future success in my field. It was also an amazing experience to meet so many different people while learning how to scuba dive in the beautiful reef and oceans.

I greatly enjoyed all activities in the GIS & Reserve Management internship in South Africa- I felt like part of the reserve and I was doing meaningful tasks. What I enjoyed most was being around all the exotic animals and learning about their incredible adaptations and behavior. This opened my eyes and inspired me to consider pursuing work in the conservation industry.

I received my advanced certification from the Marine Biology & Reef Conservation internship in South Africa which will be helpful in my future diving endeavors. Experiencing a marine protected area, learning about surrounding countries and their conservation efforts gives me further insight on how conservation must be a global participation priority.

Before arriving, I was skeptical that it was too good to be true. However, the experience still exceeded the high expectations I already had. I never wanted to leave and I appreciated my time with all the team members and wildlife. I highly, highly recommend this to anyone, and just remember: the impact and what you take away from this is largely up to you. You will receive multiple layers of support from your Program Manager, in-country coordinator and supervisor. My Program Manager was amazing through and through. All questions and concerns were addressed promptly and always in a friendly, supportive manner. The 8 weeks I spent at the Gondwana Game Reserve were nothing short of phenomenal. There were always opportunities to grow personally and academically in more ways than I could expect. The camp managers were excellent in running the camp in a way that felt friendly but structured, and were always there when you needed it - whether it was a laugh or advice.
