Spend a week getting to know the beautiful city of Quito, Ecuador! Partake in a week of touring and Spanish lessons. Travel highlights include a visit to the Equator and a salsa dance lesson. Volunteer work will take place in Puyo, where volunteers will be working at an animal shelter that has rescued injured wild animals. As a volunteer on this project, you will be involved in several hands-on tasks, such as helping to maintain the animals shelter as well as preparing fruit meals for the animals.

Does your study focus on veterinary, zoology or animal science? Get the chance to apply your knowledge in a real work setting through this veterinary internship in Ecuador! Strengthen your CV with hands-on experience in the improvement of wildlife welfare. The program is based in the Amazon rainforest, within a 4-hectare property used for wildlife rescue, rehabilitation and release! You will work at a sanctuary led by a local team and veterinarian who manage the treatment, nutrition, eventual release, and monitoring of animals. It currently provides shelter to around 200 birds, reptiles, mammals - monkeys, caimans, wild cats, turtles, parrots, and other animals. While their main focus is wildlife rescue and protection, the facility is open to school groups and the public to generate much-needed income. Contribute to work and help the sanctuary achieve success in their mission by signing up for this internship program. You won’t just benefit Ecuador’s wildlife, but also acquire firsthand experience in practices taken to positively impact the lives of birds and animals!

This program offers a unique opportunity to explore community-based medicine in a variety of settings, from the public hospital in a big urban setting to a small public primary healthcare clinic at the edge of the rainforest. Learn how communities in Guayaquil, Ecuador’s most vibrant and populated city, and Puyo, a small city on the Amazon rainforest, are addressing their most pressing health challenges including chronic, infectious, and vector-borne diseases, all while improving your Spanish and gaining insights into public health realities in Ecuador, indigenous cultures, and community medicine. Unique to this program is the opportunity to live with an indigenous tribe for several days, providing insight into indigenous communities and their ancestral healing practices. Eat traditional meals with the Shuar and learn about medicinal plants.

This on-site program provides an opportunity to gain exclusive and specialist knowledge about animal rehabilitation in Ecuador and the Amazon rainforest. You will contribute to animal care and welfare, assisting with tasks such as food preparation, feeding, behavioral observations, and rehabilitation activities. You may also help with facility maintenance, including enclosure repairs and construction. Additionally, you can learn about handling clinical cases, newborns, and animal nutrition. This program is suitable for students of biology, conservation, zoology, and anyone interested in animal welfare and conservation. However, everyone can join without any previous knowledge. The project is located near Arajuno, about an hour's drive northeast of Puyo, in the Ecuadorian Amazon. The program starts every Sunday in Quito, with participants traveling to the project site the following Monday. Accommodation on a full board on weekdays will be provided.
