Does your study focus on veterinary, zoology or animal science? Get the chance to apply your knowledge in a real work setting through this veterinary internship in Ecuador! Strengthen your CV with hands-on experience in the improvement of wildlife welfare. The program is based in the Amazon rainforest, within a 4-hectare property used for wildlife rescue, rehabilitation and release! You will work at a sanctuary led by a local team and veterinarian who manage the treatment, nutrition, eventual release, and monitoring of animals. It currently provides shelter to around 200 birds, reptiles, mammals - monkeys, caimans, wild cats, turtles, parrots, and other animals. While their main focus is wildlife rescue and protection, the facility is open to school groups and the public to generate much-needed income. Contribute to work and help the sanctuary achieve success in their mission by signing up for this internship program. You won’t just benefit Ecuador’s wildlife, but also acquire firsthand experience in practices taken to positively impact the lives of birds and animals!

Is it a requirement to speak Spanish for this internship?

Yes, level B1 CEFR is needed as you will be working and communicating with locals and animal shelter workers. If you need to brush up on your Spanish and are looking for an intensive language course before you go, Kaya can arrange this for you! Just reach out to our kaya placement advisors or enroll for the course online.

Do I need to be enrolled in a University to do this internship?

This internship is perfect for any undergraduate or graduate students with an academic focus on animal science, zoology, or veterinary studies! It is important that you have a good understanding of biology and physiology of the animals we have at the centre. Being a team player and having the will to learn is of course just as important!

What is the minimum and maximum length of this internship?

The minimum time you can spend completing this internship is 4 weeks. The maximum, however, is up to you! Kaya has prices for this internship for 12 weeks, with any extra weeks added on to that costing £319/$499 after that!

Is it safe to work in the Amazon rainforest?

We understand that you might have some concerns about working in the Amazon Rainforest. Animals can be unpredictable however, rest assured that our on-the-ground project managers are fully trained in safety best practices and first aid! Kaya has helped hundreds of interns gain once-in-a-lifetime experience with no problems!

Is accommodation provided for this internship?

Yes! Kaya provides accommodation for each intern for this project. The accommodation will be a shared room in a cabin with other interns! Meals are also provided twice throughout the day, although you will have access to a shared kitchen to cook in.
