AFS Intercultural Programs: High School Abroad in Ireland

Study abroad on the “The Emerald Isle” with its glorious scenery and friendly, welcoming people. With stunning coastal views, ancient monuments, and lively towns and cities, Ireland offers so much to see and do. Home to the Giant’s Causeway, the Ring of Kerry, and the lively city of Dublin; Ireland is sure to amaze you. You’ll quickly recognize that the Irish know how to have great craic (the Irish word for fun)! Music is central to Irish life and is usually at the heart of each community. Sport is a prominent feature of Irish life, too. Hurling and Gaelic football, Ireland’s two national sports, are the most popular of all. During your time in Ireland, you’ll become thoroughly familiar with the Irish way of life by living with a carefully selected host family and continuing your education at a local secondary school in one of our host communities. Ireland is an ideal place to step outside of your comfort zone, become a cultural insider, and engage in an exciting new adventure.

CIEE High School Abroad: Immersion in Ireland

Live with an Irish family, study at a local school, and revel in a unique cultural wonderland. Get ready for an authentic Irish educational experience, complete with a traditional school uniform. At a local boys’ or girls’ high school, you will study alongside Irish peers and choose from a wide variety of courses, all taught in English. What will you do on weekends? Catch the latest movie on a rainy day in Dublin. Surf at Lahinch Beach, a rugged beach near the Cliffs of Moher. Visit the Ring of Kerry, a peninsula in southern Ireland. These are just a few of the things students do with their host families, CIEE friends, and other international students. At your homestay, live like a local! Most of our placements are within 90 minutes of Dublin airport in suburban or rural areas, giving you easy access to the outdoors and providing you with amazing insights into the authentic Irish lifestyle.

It was the best experience of my life and I made life long friends and family that I will never forget. My most memorable experience was probably just my host family and the school I went to because it was where I spent most of my time.
