A Guide to Gap Year in Zimbabwe
Popular Locations
Okay, so now you want to gap year in Zimbabwe, but where??? Here are some of the top locations for Zimbabwe gap years:
Gweru. This beautiful, centrally located city is an ideal destination for your gap year in Zimbabwe. From sunny winters and rainy summers, Zimbabwe is often painted with purple jacarandas, red roses and poinsettias, and in the spring, orange glory before green summers. When nature paints itself, all you have to do is show up and appreciate it. Beyond the natural beauty, Gweru has several colleges and universities which is perfect for Zimbabwe gap years since it will be easier for you to meet other students! Making friends in new parts of the world is an incredible experience that you won’t want to miss out on.
Harare. As the capital of Zimbabwe, Harare has access to both the cultural roots of Zimbabwe at the National Gallery of Zimbabwe as well as the wildlife and nature at Mukuvisi Woodlands, which has giraffes and zebras roaming, as well as bike paths for your leisure. Just imagine immersing yourself in both an internship and the amazing Zimbabwean culture, while having opportunities to mingle with the wildlife and wonderful residents of Zimbabwe. Harare is the most populous city, so you will have plenty of people (and animals) to meet and enjoy!
Victoria Falls. Need we say more? Well, if you want to hear it… As the largest waterfall in the world, you will experience life on the border between Zimbabwe and Zambia. So if you are looking for an awe-inspiring experience, Victoria Falls is for you (seriously, look it up—you won’t regret it!). You can find gap year programs in Zimbabwe that will take you on boat tours, river rafting, white water rafting, and tubing. Talk about exciting! Elephant sanctuaries and canopy tours will also be right at your fingertips. Victoria Falls is also only a drive away from Hwange National Park! You will have no time to be bored or uninspired during your gap year in Zimbabwe.
Popular Activities
Adventure Travel. If you are looking for a year worth remembering, an adventure travel gap year in Zimbabwe will definitely leave you plenty to talk about for years to come, as well as reflect on and unpack. You will learn the most about yourself when you push yourself outside of your comfort zone, so this is a great opportunity for those looking for an adventure in Zimbabwe. We’re talking things with bungees, white rapids, and, you guessed it, ANIMALS!
Animals. What better place to learn about and work with animals than the African bush? You will have access to conservation efforts and also animals in their natural habitat. What more could you ask for? It’ll be a real world Lion King, helping you appreciate the circle of life. At Hwange National Park you will find large elephant herds, lions, and African wild dogs, all of which are special to experience in the wild at least once in your life if you have the opportunity (which you obvi will—through gap year programs in Zimbabwe!).
Internships. You will have plenty of opportunities for finding meaningful internships in Zimbabwe which will offer you work experience and opportunity to connect with coworkers and the community. What a journey to embark upon!!
December 05, 2025by: Caeley Hattle - New ZealandProgram: Quest Africa: Mixed Core Program - Forge Your Future
Quest was one of the hardest things I have ever had to do, and yet the most fulfilling, grounding and amazing one. The activities and practical skills and experiences were vast and interesting and exciting and very useful for the future. But Quest was so much more than just a whirlwind of good times. It taught me strength and courage and how sometimes life can be so much harder than expected, but I am always capable of getting through it. Quest showed me grit and determination and success. And that success doesn’t mean a place I get to but a way of living. Living everyday in discipline and steps, in focus and contentment. The development I saw in myself and the Questors around me, I know we will forever have that as our core base to stand on. I still daily thing about what Quest taught me and how I could be making my next moves. I absolutely loved it, the awesome parts and the tough ones, each teaching me a different lesson. I absolutely would recommend Quest in a heartbeat, to anyone who is ready to step into the world and find and form the best version of themselves. It was so incredibly fun and fulfilling! Very grateful and blessed to partake in Quest for my gap year. If you’re still weighing it up, DO IT!! You’ll thank yourself later for making that first step out of your comfort zone. Thank you Quest Africa ❤️🔥

Second Hand Enjoyment / Type 2 fun
November 28, 2025by: Tristan Bouwer - South AfricaProgram: Quest Africa Men's Core: 7-Month Journey of Transformation
When it comes to Quest Africa, I still struggle to find words big enough for what it is. It’s a place that feels almost unreal - tucked deep in the African bush, miles away from noise, and comfort. From the moment you arrive, they pull you into an adventure like no other. I’ve personally been scuba diving through caves, hunting in thick bush, building and painting, and sweating for this place in ways I didn’t even know I could. It’s the kind of environment that demands your full presence. You don’t just visit Quest - you earn your time there, and it changes you. When I think back on my time at Quest, one lesson stands above everything else: growth doesn’t happen in comfort. It happens when you put yourself in situations that are hard, unfamiliar, and sometimes miserable in the moment. Like orientation week, when you’ve just finished building a shelter and the rain starts pouring, and all you can do is huddle together for warmth. Or when you’ve been hiking for three days straight and suddenly you’re told to run a 21km. Those experiences are pure “type 2 enjoyment” - in the moment it feels like hell, but later you look back with gratitude, because it made you tougher, taught you what you’re capable of, and showed you how much more you have in the tank than you think. But what makes it truly special is that you don’t go through any of it alone. Quest forges real relationships because everyone around you is carrying the same weight, facing the same stress, and pushing through the same doubt. There’s something powerful about suffering and succeeding side by side. It builds trust quickly, strips away the fake stuff, and leaves you with friendships that are real -the kind that last a lifetime. Quest Africa is magic not because it’s easy or pretty (even though it can be both), but because it forces you to grow, and it gives you people to grow with.

As in life, your Quest experience is what you make it…
November 28, 2025by: Jax Tatham (Ross) - ZimbabweProgram: Quest Africa LifeCamp: Gain Real Skills & Clarity in 8 Weeks
You can choose to either sit back and let the experience pass you by or take a chance, dive head first and watch yourself be transformed, sometimes in ways you don’t expect. Expect the unexpected I suppose! I arrived on day one with little self confidence and very much in my own shell. By the end, the program had stretched, challenged and drawn me out of myself. I had achieved so much in the short time I was there with the biggest transformation being my self confidence - I suddenly had some… Wholeheartedly recommend Quest to anyone willing to discover their potential!
From boy to man

There aren’t many experiences like Quest that I think about every single week. Not just the irreplaceable skills and learning but the unforgettable memories as well. What I gained from my experience set me up for success in university and now the life that I am living after too.

An unexpected joy
November 27, 2025by: Gabriel Maas - ZimbabweProgram: Quest Africa Men's Core: 7-Month Journey of Transformation
Everything at Quest taught us to be ready for the unexpected. You don't receive any warnings, timelines for preparation. The first term of the program was the most gruelling but yet the best part of my experience. We learned how to be independent, to work together as a team. We learned to push instead of pull. My personal lesson from this amazing experience: Never give up on yoursel, for the battle is yours to win . Quest made me think on my feet, and make my plans on the move. At the end of each challenge, we reaped the reward of our hard work.
Perfect half of a gap year
November 27, 2025by: Erin Moore - AustraliaProgram: Quest Africa: Mixed Core Program - Forge Your Future
Quest Africa was my dream gap year. I did it as a break from uni and it was a real boost of confidence and sent me back to normal life at the end feeling strong, confident and ready to tackle life. My favourite aspects were the physical acumen which really challenged you and pushed you to the limit, the personal reflection of journaling, reading and improving oneself and the final project at the end of high you get to choose and is a culmination of your skills. That’s just a couple things. I’ve made lifelong friends from around the world, seen a lot of Zimbabwe and even Mozambique and yeah just had the best time. If I could do it again I would 100% recommend if you are willing to challenge yourself and be pushed to your limits to come out as a better version of yourself.

8 months to grow, learn and transform without the judgments of the outside world.
September 27, 2025by: Sebastian HeinamannProgram: Quest Africa Men's Core: 7-Month Journey of Transformation
Joining Quest caused a major shift in both my environment and lifestyle, from the moment I arrived I was able to see the massive shifts and adaptations I was going to make in day to day life. It was originally intimidating, entering somewhere I knew so little about, but one thing was clear, and that was whatever challenges were going to be set before me would make me more rounded, strong and disciplined. From the get go I felt a weight lifted off my shoulders as I knew that here I have 8 months to grow, learn and transform without the judgments of the outside world.

September 26, 2025by: EliasProgram: Quest Africa LifeCamp: Gain Real Skills & Clarity in 8 Weeks
Quest Africa has been the best period in my life and I know for a fact that the lessons I learnt here, the experiences I had, the places I saw, the people I met, and the things I did, both easy and tough, will stick with me for the rest of my life and that is something I would never take back.
Truly life-changing
September 24, 2025by: TessaProgram: Quest Africa Men's Core: 7-Month Journey of Transformation
It’s so moving and inspiring to see everyone’s messages coming in. I echo all the sentiments. What an incredible experience for our boys in every way. Thank you to the incredible leadership and beautifully thought through program that has allowed so many experiences in these last 8 months. It has been truly life-changing and definitely something that will continue to shape who they are as they walk through this world as young men. I really believe the world is a better place because of what they will bring into it.
I witnessed firsthand how small daily efforts compound into lasting growth.
September 24, 2025by: FelixProgram: Quest Africa LifeCamp: Gain Real Skills & Clarity in 8 Weeks
I witnessed firsthand how small daily efforts compound into lasting growth. I learned that it's not about making a single effort and expecting results; it's about committing to show up repeatedly, even on the challenging days. That rhythm of effort has become a foundation I know I can rely on.
How to find value in everything and everyone he encounters.
September 22, 2025by: NaomiProgram: Quest Africa LifeCamp: Gain Real Skills & Clarity in 8 Weeks
During his time with you he spoke to me regularly about his journey. He learned that life is rarely fair, and that the true path is always lined with self-doubt and challenges. But he also learned how to listen. How to be of service. How to push past his perceived limits. And perhaps most importantly, how to find value in everything and everyone he encounters.
An environment where young men are tested physically, mentally, and emotionally
September 21, 2025by: SimonWhat you have built at Quest is rare — an environment where young men are tested physically, mentally, and emotionally in ways that forge genuine resilience and character. I am deeply grateful for the role each of you played in that transformation.
Real freedom is doing what’s right for me long-term, even if it’s tough at the moment.
September 18, 2025by: Callum BarronProgram: Quest Africa Men's Core: 7-Month Journey of Transformation
At Quest, I had to sit with discomfort. No Wi-Fi. No late nights. No numbing out. Just me, my thoughts, the structure, and the mirror of other people. That was hard at first, but it helped me face what I was running from. I’ve started to realise that freedom doesn’t mean avoiding responsibility. Real freedom is doing what’s right for me long-term, even if it’s tough at the moment.
An extraordinary gap year programme making men out of boys.

An extraordinary gap year programme making men out of boys , shaping and moulding along the way , leaving these young men with lessons and tools they will use for their days to come . The brotherhood they formed and bonds under pressure - unbreakable , for a lifetime . Mr M - wow wow wow - Romans speech to you had us all in tears - one line I will never forget - you taught and led and listened and mentored - not with external props but with the way YOU lived and showed up for each and everyone . The way you walk your path is the way these young men will remember you by - Enormous gratitude and please come visit in Plett if you pass one day . Thank you all - special times
Quest just gave me that little nudge that I needed to see my potential.
September 16, 2025by: CelesteWhy Quest - . I wanted something different, something no other institute could offer, a combination of disciplinary training, educational skills, and travelling all in one, Quest Africa was the only place we found that could offer that, and it was something I really needed. Quest just gave me that little nudge that I needed to see my potential.
I’ve come out of this stronger, more focused, and more self-aware.
September 15, 2025by: Matthew KeyserProgram: Quest Africa Men's Core: 7-Month Journey of Transformation
I don’t ever want to become the version of myself that I was before Quest. I’ll stay grounded in the values I’ve picked up here: discipline, humility, honesty, and grit. I’ll continue leaning into discomfort and showing up even when it’s hard. Quest has been the fire starter in my life and now it’s on me to keep the fire going. This experience has changed my direction completely. It’s given me tools, brotherhood, and a new mindset. I’ve come out of this stronger, more focused, and more self-aware.
I've developed the ability to push through and just get them done.
September 14, 2025by: Caleb BlackProgram: Quest Africa Men's Core: 7-Month Journey of Transformation
My attitude towards work, especially tasks I don’t enjoy, has shifted from resistance to acceptance—and even purpose. While I still might not “like” doing certain things, I’ve developed the ability to push through and just get them done. I’ve trained myself to think beyond the momentary discomfort and look at the bigger picture: Why am I doing this? What will I gain from it? What character am I building in the process?
