Public Health Study Abroad Programs in Spain

Spend a semester or academic year in the modern and cosmopolitan city of Barcelona, Spain, with AIFS Abroad! You’ll earn up to 15 credits per semester studying at the Universitat Pompeu Fabra (UPF). Courses are taught in English or Spanish, with no previous Spanish language study required. There are many ways to make an impact within Barcelona’s local community. Once you’re abroad, volunteer opportunities will be available through local NGOs to provide services to people in need within the local community. Live in a Spanish homestay or, for an additional fee, in an apartment or student residence. Homestay students receive breakfast and dinner Monday through Friday from the family. Apartment and residence students have access to a shared kitchen. Cultural and social activities include guided tours of Barcelona and its famous landmarks and attractions, cooking classes, Flamenco performances, and tapas evenings with Spanish students. 3-day excursions to the Pyrenees (fall only) and Tarragona and Southern Catalonia (spring only) are included in the program fee, as well as day trips to Gerona and Besalú, Figueras and the Salvador Dalí Museum, and Montserrat and Sitges.

Your Semester in Seville program lasts a full semester and is designed for students from all academic backgrounds. You will enroll in a combination of CIEE courses, host institution courses, and courses taught online through CIEE's global academic partner, ASU. You can take classes in your field of interest at an accredited public Spanish university. Most classes are taught in Spanish alongside Spanish students. While some courses are offered in English, we highly recommend taking on the challenge of studying in Spanish. If you need additional Spanish practice before the semester starts, you may combine our Summer Spanish Immersion program with the semester or year abroad program. You will be issued an official transcript, and we can assist you with obtaining transfer credit at your home institution. When visiting Seville, you can experience the city as it was centuries ago. The lovely winding streets and active public squares of the Barrio Santa Cruz allow insight into the oldest portion of the city, and the list of monuments and historic sites is seemingly endless. The Tower of Gold once served as a landmark for arriving ships, and its Cathedral houses the tomb of Christopher Columbus. The 12th-century Moorish palace, the Alcázar, is the oldest palace fortress still used by European royalty.
