CIEE Summer Internships CIEE Summer Global Internships are 6-credit, 8-week programs with full-time working hours (approximately 30 hours weekly) and a seminar. CIEE Summer Intern and Study Abroad are 6 to 7-credit, 6-week programs with a part-time internship (approximately 20 hours weekly), a seminar, and a 3-credit academic course. CIEE Semester Internships CIEE Semester Global Internships are 9 to 13-credit, 12-week programs that feature a full-time internship (approximately 30 hours weekly), a seminar, and an optional 3 to 4-credit academic course online. CIEE Semester Intern and Study Abroad Programs are 12 to 14-credit, 12-week programs that feature a part-time internship​ (approximately 20 hours weekly), a seminar, and two academic courses.

The IES Abroad Madrid Program is designed for those who want to experience the vitality of Spain! Live in its capital city and through course enrollment at the Universidad Complutense de Madrid (UCM), one of the country's most distinguished universities. Students enroll in Spanish language courses as well as courses in their academic major. Field study trips are organized to complement specific areas of study, such as visits to television stations for Broadcasting majors or visits to Congress for Political Science majors. Four semesters of college-level Spanish are required to be admitted to this program. Madrid is an ideal place to connect university studies to the city's business, culture, and politics. The IES Center is located on the UCM campus for students' use and as a resource for any questions or concerns during the program.

Explore urbanization and social justice in New York, Buenos Aires, Barcelona, and Cape Town. Through coursework, field visits, and homestays, examine how politics, economics, culture, and geography shape cities and influence the lives of urban citizens. Meet with academics, officials, NGOs, and grassroots movements to see how urban citizens organize to envision, build, and create more just and sustainable cities. Focus on fieldwork methods and ethics while completing a comparative research project on a topic of your choice. This program offers the choice to do a minor in urban studies. This program is perfect for students with intermediate-level or higher Spanish skills who seek an authentic and immersive experience. Away from the crowds of American students who opt for more popular destinations, like Barcelona or Madrid, with us, you will find yourself fully immersed in the Spanish language and culture of La Coruña, Spain. At the beginning of the semester, you can optionally take an intensive Spanish language course to help prepare you for the semester abroad. You can take classes in your field of interest at an accredited public Spanish university. Most classes are taught in Spanish alongside Spanish students. While some courses are offered in English, we highly recommend taking on the challenge of studying in Spanish. If you need additional Spanish practice before the semester starts, you may combine our Summer Spanish Immersion program with the semester or year abroad program. You will be issued an official transcript, and we can assist you with obtaining transfer credit at your home institution. Adding a customized internship at a Spanish company alongside your studies is possible.

The University Immersion Program (PIU) is especially designed for students with advanced Spanish language skills who wish to immerse themselves fully in a Spanish university. They enroll directly in regular classes with Spanish students. For Business majors: If you are a business major but are not fluent in Spanish, several business courses are available in English with Spanish-speaking students as well. Please note that a minimum GPA of 2.75 (on a 4.0 scale) is required to participate in this program.

The Liberal Arts in Advanced Spanish program offers the best combination of cultural preparation, specially designed courses, and guided direct enrollment at a local university. Designed for students who have completed two semesters of advanced college Spanish, it features combined studies at the Spanish Studies Abroad Center with courses at Universidad de Sevilla (USEV). At the Center, immerse yourself in the Spanish language and culture through courses specially designed for non-Spanish students. At the same time, fulfill the requirements needed for Spanish, international studies, business, education, and other majors. In addition to living in a Spanish home, participate in study tours, cultural events, and social activities. The city provides students with a wealth of intellectual and cultural possibilities and enjoys a central location, making travel to various regions convenient. The Sede Prim in Madrid, the headquarters of the School in Spain, houses the undergraduate and graduate programs. This facility, run by Middlebury College, offers an academic program designed specifically for its students. Students can add to their experience by taking up to two courses at the Universidad Autónoma de Madrid or up to three at the Universidad Carlos III de Madrid.
