The Turtle Conservation Volunteer Program in Watamu offers a unique opportunity to contribute to the protection and preservation of endangered sea turtles along Kenya’s pristine coastline. As a volunteer, you work closely with local conservationists in Watamu. Your duties include monitoring turtle nests, assisting with hatchling releases, conducting beach patrols to protect nesting sites, and participating in community education initiatives to raise awareness about the importance of marine conservation. Beyond fieldwork, you will immerse yourself in the local culture, live in a volunteer house with other international participants, and experience the rich biodiversity of the Watamu Marine National Park. Volunteer in this project and discover over 100 bird species, green turtles, and unique coral gardens in Mombasa. Get the chance to explore an ecosystem of marine and tidal habitats along Kenya’s north coast with rich and diverse bird life, fish, turtles, and dugongs. The placement is in an animal orphanage, which shelters and quarantines rescued animals found sick, injured, orphaned, or stranded in the wild. Your tasks include: - Feeding giraffes in the park and crocodiles in pens, with over 90 inhabitants, including juveniles - Monitoring the biodiversity, health, and growth of the reef system around Mombasa through fish, invertebrate, and coral surveys - Monitoring and collecting data on Mombasa turtles to help assess the success of conservation efforts

Volunteers and interns work with local communities to provide veterinary and animal husbandry services. They can also work in wildlife sanctuaries. This program is open to individuals with a keen interest in veterinary services. We work hand in hand with government ministries in placing them in specific communities and centers in dire need of assistance. They can choose from these projects: - Olpajeja conservancies - Lake Nakuru National Park - Ministry of Livestock The work involves data collection, analysis, animal care, community outreach education, and other related duties. Participants collaborate with professionals and, in the case of wildlife conservation, with rangers. Weekends are free for excursions and socializing.
