Every year, Kenya's sea turtles face illegal harvesting, fishing nets, and habitat loss. Despite legal protections, enforcement is weak, and threats continue to rise. This Sea Turtle Conservation Volunteer Program in Mtwapa, Mombasa, places volunteers directly in the field—conducting beach patrols, monitoring nests, collecting data, and assisting with the rescue and release of turtles accidentally caught by local fishermen. Volunteers also support the care of injured and sick turtles at the Sea Turtle Rescue and Rehabilitation Centre, gaining hands-on experience in marine biology and coastal ecosystems along the Kenyan coastline.
