This experience changed my life for the best!
August 19, 2026by: Jimena Amaro Cordova - United StatesProgram: Global Internship & Volunteer Programs with Connect-123!
My internship at the Salesian Institute Youth Projects pushed me far beyond what I expected, taking me from supporting program logistics to independently running counseling sessions and managing my own client caseload within just a few months. I was trusted with real responsibility early on, from leading a group of 45 adult learners on my own to adapting a therapeutic intervention on short notice for an urgent client referral, and that trust taught me more about clinical work and resilience than I could have learned in a classroom. This experience confirmed that clinical psychology, particularly cross-cultural and community-based care, is exactly the path I want to pursue.

My experience with MOLAC was truly unforgettable. From the moment I arrived, I was welcomed like a member of the family. Living with a local host family gave me a genuine understanding of Tanzanian culture, traditions, and daily life. The Kiswahili lessons were practical and engaging, helping me communicate confidently with local people. I especially enjoyed practicing the language during community activities and cultural visits. The volunteer experience was meaningful and well-organized. I felt that my contribution was valued, and I learned just as much from the community as I was able to give. The MOLAC team was supportive, friendly, and always available to help. This program offered the perfect combination of cultural immersion, language learning, and community engagement. My internship in Barcelona and experience with Connect-123 has been amazing! They helped place me into a biomedical research lab studying liver transplantation outcomes and I had amazing coworkers and a lovely time working there. I have gained many valuable skills here-from co-authoring a review paper to learning various types of histological and immunological analyses, which will assist me in future research I pursue. Connect-123 has been supportive and helpful every step of the way in this once-in-a-lifetime experience. These past few months have taught me important professional and personal skills, especially regarding cultural humility and adjusting to life in a new country. Overall, my experience in the research lab has strengthened my desire to pursue a career in medical and clinical research while also expanding both my academic and personal horizons. I am incredibly grateful for this opportunity and would highly recommend it to anyone seeking meaningful research and cultural experiences abroad.

Community, wildlife, and memories I'II never forget🤍🦁
March 09, 2026by: Gilly Hoy - United KingdomProgram: Community Teaching and Wildlife Management, Antelope Park
Antelope Park is truly one of the most memorable places I have ever experienced, and I can honestly say it changed me as a person. I was mainly involved in the community projects and wildlife work, and both were incredibly rewarding. The community initiatives felt impactful and well thought-out, and it was great to be part of projects that genuinely support local people rather than just observing from the outside. The wildlife side was equally memorable, giving real insight into conservation work and the challenges involved. I originally went for three weeks and ended up extending my stay for an extra week, which says a lot about how much I was enjoying the experience. I met some amazing people and made some amazing friendships. I also had some horse riding lessons with Ted, and I can't thank him enough for his patience - especially for putting up with me and the diva I definitely was at times. The staff I worked with on these projects were knowledgeable, supportive, and clearly passionate about what they do, which made a big difference to the overall experience. There's a real sense of purpose at Antelope Park, and you really feel that your time there is being used well. Since getting home, I've realised just how much I miss Antelope Park — the lifestyle, the environment, and especially the people. I left feeling like l'd gained a lot personally, and I already know I'll be back so I can get even more involved. Thank you for an incredible experience!

My Positive Volunteer Experience in Uganda
February 10, 2026by: Lukas Powell - United StatesMy name is Lukas Powell, born on 23 November 2003, and I am an American volunteer from the United States. In January 2026, I had the opportunity to volunteer with Go Volunteer Africa in Mukono, Uganda, an experience that was both meaningful and transformative. During my time in Mukono, I was warmly welcomed by the local community and the Go Volunteer Africa team. I gained valuable hands-on experience while working alongside local staff and other volunteers, and I learned a great deal about community development, teamwork, and cultural exchange. The experience challenged me to adapt to a new environment, think creatively, and approach tasks with patience and respect. Volunteering in Uganda helped me grow personally and professionally. I developed stronger communication skills, became more culturally aware, and learned the importance of service-driven work. The support and guidance provided Go Volunteer Africa made my experience rewarding and well-organized, and I always felt encouraged and valued as a volunteer. Overall, my volunteer experience in Mukono was extremely positive and impactful. I am grateful to Go Volunteer Africa for the opportunity, and I would highly recommend their programs to anyone seeking a meaningful and authentic volunteering experience in Africa.
The volunteer work itself was impactful and fulfilling
January 31, 2026by: Lauren Stemah - United StatesMy volunteer experience in Uganda, Mukono through Go Volunteer Africa was truly one of the most meaningful and unforgettable experiences of my life. From the very beginning, everything was well organized, supportive, and deeply authentic. Mukono is a beautiful place peaceful, welcoming, and full of life. Being part of the local community allowed me to experience Uganda beyond tourism. The people were kind, open-hearted, and always willing to share their culture, stories, and smiles. My hosts, Isaac and Sandra, were absolutely amazing. They went above and beyond to make me feel safe, comfortable, and at home from day one. Their hospitality was genuine, warm, and full of care. They were always available to guide, support, and encourage me, not just as a volunteer, but as part of their family. Thanks to them, I quickly adjusted to life in Mukono and truly felt like I belonged. The volunteer work itself was impactful and fulfilling. It was inspiring to see how even small efforts can make a real difference in the community. I learned so much about Ugandan culture, resilience, community values, and myself. This experience changed my perspective and left me with memories and friendships I will treasure forever. I highly recommend Go Volunteer Africa to anyone looking for a meaningful, well-supported, and life-changing volunteer experience. And if you get the chance to stay with Isaac and Sandra, consider yourself very lucky, you will be in the best hands. This was not just volunteering; it was a journey of growth, connection, and purpose. Uganda is a beautiful country in all aspects - the people, the landscape, and the rich culture all made my time there the most amazing experience. There are many diverse volunteer projects with Go Volunteer Africa scattered across the country from Kampala, Mukono, Jinja, Masaka etc. My volunteering experience in Mukono was exceptional! The opportunity to get to know and work with the others on the team was a pleasure. I was more than satisfied with all aspects of my time there. I wanted to get out of my comfort zone and that goal was definitely met! Thank you Go Volunteer Africa and thank you team Uganda for the wonderful experience.

Most heart-warming experience of my life
December 02, 2025by: Sidi Jut - NetherlandsVolunteering with SMWEF Ghana has been one of the most meaningful and heart-warming experiences of my life, and it is something I would recommend to absolutely anyone. I volunteered with SMWEF for two months in 2025, and from the moment I arrived, I was welcomed with open arms by Naomi and Seth. SMWEF is deeply committed to giving every child a fair chance at a brighter future. The warmth and kindness these children carry with them is truly indescribable. Being able to put a smile on their faces by giving them the love, time, and attention they deserve is incredibly fulfilling. Their joy and love is so pure and heartwarming, it gave me such a different perspective. The love and passion that Seth and Naomi have for these children is equally indescribable. They give everything they have to give these children a chance at a better future. Their dedication, strength, and wholehearted commitment are truly inspiring. I have the deepest respect for their mission and the tireless work they do every day. You can see and feel the impact they make every single day you are there and they will take you along with every part of the process. SMWEF still needs all the support they can get, and every volunteer truly makes a difference. I cannot recommend SMWEF highly enough. Volunteering with them will fill your heart, broaden your perspective, and leave you with an experience you will cherish for the rest of your life.

Productive Summer
October 06, 2025by: Christine Nguyen - United StatesProgram: Global Internship & Volunteer Programs with Connect-123!
During my internship, I contributed to an international project focused on autism screening and community research priorities. My work involved systematically screening studies, reviewing inclusion/exclusion criteria, and extracting detailed data into shared spreadsheets. I gained experience in critically reading abstracts and full texts, interpreting methodologies, and paying close attention to performance metrics such as sensitivity, specificity, and AUC values. Beyond technical skills, this internship gave me a deeper appreciation for the nuances of autism research — especially the importance of ethical considerations, community involvement, and shifting away from overly medicalized models of disability. I learned how to apply exclusion codes consistently, collaborate with peers across time zones, and manage large datasets precisely. This experience strengthened my research skills and my ability to reflect on the broader impact of scientific work. It challenged me to think critically about equity in autism research, including representation across countries, age ranges, and support needs. I now feel much more confident navigating scientific literature and contributing to conversations around research priorities. Overall, my internship was both practical and meaningful. It reinforced my academic interests in neurobiology and psychology while developing transferable organizational skills, critical analysis, and teamwork skills. I am grateful for the experience and for the opportunity to contribute to research that has real-world impact. Thanks again, and we look forward to keeping in touch!!
