Volunteer and Make a Lasting Change in Uganda

by: Hope Children's Foundation

4.25 (4)Since 1999

Help save lives in Uganda by volunteering with our nonprofit organization. We aim to reach marginalized children and youths such as orphans, school dropouts, refugees, and members of poverty-stricken families. Today, we bring together over 300 children from the outskirt districts of Kampala, Mubende, Kasanda, Wakiso, Luwero, and West Nile regions to provide them with necessities: education, shelter, food, clothing, and health care. Share your time, skills, and talents to make a tremendous difference in the lives of underprivileged children and youths. This volunteer program empowers young Ugandans through education. Your role involves teaching nursery and primary classes, assisting children with their daily tasks, providing administration support, fundraising, writing, and carrying out activities in your areas of interest. We offer volunteers comfortable accommodation, tasty local food, assistance, and an introduction to the local culture.

Program Highlights

Assist teachers in handling subjects such as English, Mathematics, Science, Physical Education, and others.

Provide Ugandan youth with vocational and life skills training to create a brighter future for them.

A Life-Changing Experience with Hope Children’s Foundation Volunteering with Hope Children’s Foundation was one of the most rewarding experiences of my life. I was motivated to join because I wanted to make a meaningful impact on vulnerable children, and HCF provided the perfect platform to do so. During my time there, I had the opportunity to work closely with the children, assist in educational programs, and contribute to community outreach initiatives. The staff was incredibly welcoming and supportive, making me feel like part of a family. Seeing the children grow and thrive through our efforts was deeply fulfilling. This experience has shaped me both personally and professionally, strengthening my leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills. I would highly recommend HCF to anyone looking for a volunteering opportunity where they can truly make a difference.

I've been working with this foundation for 40 days teaching children from 5 to 10 years old. They are full of energy and they love to come to school. During this experience, I was hosted by Kalema's and Prossy's wonderful family.
I recommend this orMy wife and I had a wonderful time during the summer of 2016! It was just a short stay of one week, but we were blessed with opportunities to meet great kids and wonderful teaching staff. Mr. and Mrs. Kayemba had such a strong, admirable personality. It was a wonderful moment when Maria and Sarah were at our home, they were so nice to our family and even to the children at school. They were so friendly, inspiring, kind, creative and hard-working. They made many things to us which will never be de

I've been working with this foundation for 140 days teaching children from 5 to 13 years old. They are full of energy and they love to come to school. During this experience, I was hosted by Kalema's and Prossy's wonderful family.
I recommend this oI only stayed for 6 weeks in the second term and there were only 140 students in attendance with 5 or so teachers on hand so there wasn't a great need for me at that time. There was a lot to do in classes and the kitchen.

The homestay of Mr KayemIt was my pressure to help at Sunrise School teaching computer lessons, children, teachers and everyone in Uganda were so calm, welcoming and kind.
For other volunteers, I recommend you to Mr Kayemba and his family they are good people.
thank you

Frequently Asked Questions

Why should I volunteer in Africa (Uganda)?

Volunteering in Africa can be life-changing. It helps break down stereotypes and misconceptions about the continent. It also fosters cultural exchange that benefits you and the community.

Many African countries today still struggle with instability and poverty, causing widespread issues such as gender inequality and limited access to education. As a global citizen, it’s your responsibility to help address these issues and create lasting change.

What is the accommodation in Uganda like?

Volunteers stay with the foundation director's family in Matugga, a peaceful African village. We have electricity, cooking facilities, and clean latrines. Our neighborhood has small shops, an internet cafe, a supermarket, and local restaurants. Taxis operate continually between Kampala and Matugga until 11 p.m., and special transport hires are available 24/7.

How can volunteers process their visas?

Volunteers must apply online for their visa at least one week before departure. It takes around 3-7 days to process visas.
