The Madrid program is ideal for students who wish to immerse themselves in Spanish and European Studies in one of the world's great capitals. Madrid is a fascinating city and has a vibrant culture that provides the perfect setting for language or art history studies. Explore the Spanish language and the complexities of Spanish and contemporary European societies through a wide selection of academic courses and personal interaction with the host culture. This program offers two diverse academic areas: Intensive Language and Spanish and European Studies. Our intensive language approach allows you to complete up to two years of university foreign language coursework in only one semester. You have ample opportunity to practice your newly learned skills both inside and outside the classroom when you take Spanish Studies. You can also enroll in excellent classes in Art History, Spanish Cinema, History of Photography, and Drawing. These are all taught at the Universidad Rey Juan Carlos Vicálvaro Campus, which is inviting, modern, and student-friendly. The campus provides a great learning and social atmosphere for USAC students.

Spend a semester or academic year in Madrid, Spain, with AIFS Abroad! Earn up to 21 credits per semester (depending on program and course selection) studying abroad at Universidad Nebrija. Courses are taught in English and Spanish. Internships and volunteer opportunities are available for you to make the most of your semester in Madrid. Universidad Nebrija offers an Internship and Spanish Language Program for students with a high intermediate to advanced level of Spanish, combining Spanish language study with a practical work placement. You may be considered for a placement in the science or hospitality field if you have an intermediate level of Spanish. Volunteer opportunities are available through a local NGO. You’ll live in a homestay with a local family or in a single room in an apartment. Homestay students will receive two meals per day from their host family. Come to Madrid and take your advanced Spanish language skills to the next level in one of the world's most energetic, artistic, and multicultural cities. This Liberal Arts program is ideal for academically motivated students who only want to take courses taught in Spanish and are majoring in humanities, social sciences, journalism, economics, business, or communications. Students will take courses at CIEE's highly selective partner school, Universidad Carlos III de Madrid (UC3M), and agree to speak only Spanish to facilitate language and cultural immersion. All CIEE students must enroll in the semester-long Advanced Spanish language course at the UC3M International School with other U.S. students—except for heritage speakers. The remaining courses can be a selection of UC3M International School courses in Spanish designed for U.S. college students. Students also have the option to combine their registration with regular university courses with Spanish students on the same campus (Getafe). Outside the classroom, the coursework is complemented with activities and excursions that delve deeper into Madrid's multicultural traditions.

You have the opportunity to take courses at two different campus locations; each campus is about a 15 to 25-minute train ride from Puerta del Sol in Madrid. Sunny Madrid! Spain's most populous and capital city is arguably also the most well-known. It has a population of 6.7 million and is the second-largest city in the European Union. It is the country's political, economic, and cultural epicenter, located in the central region, right off the River Manzanares. Madrid is a European city with the highest number of trees and green surfaces per inhabitant and the second-highest number of aligned trees in the world, with 248,000 units, only exceeded by Tokyo. Its citizens have access to a green area within a 15-minute walk. Since 1997, green areas have increased by 16%. Presently, 8.2% of Madrid's grounds are green areas, meaning there are 16 m2 (172 sq ft) of green area per inhabitant, far exceeding the 10 m2 (108 sq ft) per inhabitant recommended by the World Health Organization. As for culture and the arts, Madrid is considered one of the top European destinations concerning art museums. Best known is the Golden Triangle of Art, located along the Paseo del Prado and comprising three major museums: the Prado Museum, the Reina Sofía Museum, and the Thyssen Bornemisza Museum.
