Duke in Madrid – Elementary track allows you to start learning Spanish while spending a full spring semester in Spain’s capital. Designed for students with no prior Spanish coursework, the program combines SPANISH 101 and 102 into a two-credit Signature Course, helping you build foundational language skills quickly through immersion. Sponsored by Duke’s Department of Romance Studies and the Global Education Office, the program pairs intensive language study with two electives taught in English at Universidad Carlos III de Madrid (UC3M), a nationally recognized institution known for academic excellence and innovation. You’ll advance academically while living your Spanish every day – in classrooms, cafés, and cultural spaces across Madrid. Spring semester only. No prior Spanish required.
