Arcadia Abroad - Burren College of Art

"Time, space, and inspiration for artists" are the founding principles of this small, innovative, independent art school located in an area of supreme natural beauty on the Wild Atlantic Way. Situated in Ballyvaughan, a small, picturesque village in rural Ireland, the Burren College of Art offers exceptional instruction in drawing, painting, mixed media, sculpture, and photography. You can also select non-studio courses in areas like creative writing, Irish studies, and art history. You will have access to personal studio space, plus one-on-one guidance from skilled faculty and visiting artists. Liberation from rigid programming and the opportunity for intense focus have helped numerous artists who have studied at the College define and refine their artistic vision.

Incredible art school in an indescribably beautiful place

Studying at the Burren College of Art was one of the best decisions I could have made for my personal growth and future as an artist and social worker. The school is situated on the coast of Ireland in a tiny village with an incredibly warm and welcoming local community. Everything about the school encourages creativity, resourcefulness and reflection. The tutorial system allows for individual guidance from professional artists and faculty, continuous research and discourse are required throughout the semester, the campus is small, close-knit and supportive and the environment surrounding the college is endlessly inspiring. There are no words that do justice to the raw beauty, power and wildness of the Burren landscape or the generosity of its people. I grew enormously as an artist, spent invaluable time reflecting and researching, expanded my practice, became a member of the Ballyvaughan Ukulele Orchestra (and thus the community) and rediscovered my connection to nature. I highly recommend this program, particularly for self-directed artists looking for the ideal environment for inspiration, quiet and creativity.
