HISA is an accredited, engaging and trip-intensive study abroad program on the vibrant and exciting Cycladic Greek island of Paros. Students can take courses in Arts and Humanities towards their majors, as electives or just for fun. Emphasis is placed on self-exploration and individual creative expression, all within a Greek island atmosphere of beauty, personal freedom and artistic inspiration. HISA's classes are held in a traditional Cycladic market house located in the center of Paroikia, the most bustling, active port town on Paros. The program includes a trip-intensive lectured exploration of the Greek islands in which students can visit famed historic and beautiful Greek and optional Croatian sites of their history textbooks and popular films while developing their portfolios side by side with professional artists, published authors and experienced instructors in each of HISA's courses. As you walk in the footsteps of the great military leaders like Julius Caesar, Pompeii and Augustus you discover how their ruthless tactics of power politics are both revered and reviled to this day. Connections between the blood sports of the Colosseum to the modern MMA fighting lead to a comparison of the athletic competitions of Ancient Olympia to the modern-day Olympics. Each day we map human connections to our past as we discover how the ideas of Socrates, Plato, and Aristotle laid the foundation to our modern thought, and explore how the plays of Aeschylus, Sophocles and Euripides established the storyboards to today's box office hits.
