Music Study Abroad Programs in Berlin, Germany

Get to know Berlin on your terms by customizing your study abroad experience through the Open Campus Block program. Take one, two, or three six-week blocks and choose courses from various subject areas. Learn from expert instructors who have made Berlin their home and are eager to share exciting connections between your course material and the people, sites, and organizations that make Berlin unique. CIEE Berlin is in the heart of the international Kreuzberg district, a hub for the arts, music, and digital technology. No matter how you build your program, you'll surround yourself with the language, culture, and people of Germany's vibrant and historic capital city.

Spend a semester or academic year in Berlin, Germany, with AIFS Abroad. You’ll earn up to 15 credits per semester through a variety of courses studying at Freie Universität. Courses are offered in English and German. If you’re interested in giving back to a local community in Berlin, information on volunteer opportunities will be available once you arrive. Live in either a homestay or student apartment (with a supplemental fee). Homestay students have their own rooms and receive breakfast and dinner daily from their host family. Apartments are single or double occupancy with a shared kitchen, bathroom, and on-site laundry facilities. They will receive a meal allowance, and all students will receive a Mensa card to subsidize the cost of on-campus dining. Cultural and social activities include: • Walking tours • Boat trips • German cooking classes • Visits to the many historical and cultural landmarks in Berlin • Day trip to Potsdam • Day trip to Quedlinburg or Dresden • Week-long trip to a destination in Europe (to be determined just before the start of the semester)

The Freie Universität Berlin International Summer and Winter University (FUBiS) is an intensive academic program through which students can earn credits that may be counted towards their degrees at their home institutions. FUBiS sessions run for three to six weeks and take place both in summer and winter. Students can choose between subject courses (mostly taught in English) and German language and culture courses. The 50+ subject courses are offered within the fields of Architecture, Art History, Politics, Law, History, Media Studies, Economics, Sustainability, Literature, Philosophy, Entrepreneurship, and Music. German language and culture courses are available for up to five different proficiency levels (A1 to C1). Field trips are an integral part of all our courses. In addition, FUBiS offers excursions such as to the Berlin Reichstag building and a river boat tour through downtown Berlin or day trips to Potsdam and Leipzig.

We accompany you from the beginning, assist with visa applications, help find accommodation, organize application training, and provide support related to school recognition and professional qualifications. You will regularly receive critical information about enrolling for your studies or finding employment in Germany. Our expertise ensures efficient learning during classes in Berlin or Düsseldorf, as well as through our online training center, allowing you to learn from the comfort of your own home. Our Creative Capitals offer festivals and venues that cater to every taste, and this practical program presents a unique opportunity to hone your production skills while living the artistic dream. The Music Production pathway is designed to prepare you for the dynamic technological landscape of the music industry. With an emphasis on creative programming, the course equips you with the necessary tools to craft exciting soundscapes. Modules in recording and mixing allow you to bring your creations to life. Learn the ins and outs of audio capture, sampling, synthesis, and composition. With a foundation in the theory and practice of audio production, you learn to face technical, artistic, and professional challenges with flexibility and innovation. The Studio Project module immerses you in real-world working practices and encourages collaboration. It also informs your portfolio, which you'll curate throughout the course. NB: This course is only available for students within the EU/EEA at our Berlin campus.
