How to Study Abroad in Shenzhen
For students at all levels of their education, taking a break from the normalcy of the traditional university or high school education to explore the Far East is a pretty good idea. This manufacturing base of the world puts together more than just machines; Shenzhen will build a study abroad experience that will enthrall and challenge.
Popular subjects to study. The most common subjects to study in Shenzhen are Chinese, education, and business. Chinese is an obvious choice for subjects to study in Shenzhen, as there's wealth of opportunities to practice every day. Business is a field that continues to grow in Shenzhen, with people arriving every day to find manufacturers and companies to meet their needs. Shenzhen is an idea location to study English as a second language because there is such a high demand for English-speakers.
Short term and summer vs. long term programs. While you could study abroad in Shenzhen for a shorter term (spring break) or longer term — in the fall, spring, summer or year-round — keep in mind that Shenzhen’s school year is different. Most universities and high schools start their fall semester in September and end in January. Spring semester starts in either February or March, depending on the Chinese Spring Festival and ends in July. There are also only two, two-month breaks with a few holidays sprinkled in with a lot of fireworks.
Attending universities vs. other program types. University programs, high school programs, and private language school programs are available for those ready to tackle into rice bowls. You could choose to study through your own educational institution, through one in Shenzhen, or an outside program. International education advisors can help you make the decision based on your curricula and financial needs.
