<h3>What inspired you to go abroad?</h3>
<p>I was inspired to go abroad by a strong desire to step outside my comfort zone, experience a different reality, and contribute to something meaningful. I wanted to better understand how nonprofit organizations operate on the ground, especially in communities where their work has a direct and visible impact.&nbsp;</p>
<p>The opportunity to gain hands-on experience in fundraising and partnerships while immersing myself in a new culture motivated me to take this step. I was particularly drawn to the idea of combining personal growth with professional development, learning not just from the work itself, but also from the people, the environment, and the challenges faced in a completely different context.</p>
<h3>Why did you choose <a href=https://www.goabroad.com/providers/future-for-africa rel="" target="_self" class="link">Future For Africa</a>?</h3>
<p>I chose this <a href=https://www.goabroad.com/providers/future-for-africa/programs/fundraising-partnerships-199436 rel="" target="_self" class="link">program</a> and organization because of its clear commitment to creating meaningful, sustainable impact in the community.&nbsp;</p>
<p>I was particularly drawn to the hands-on approach of the internship, especially in fundraising and partnerships, as it offered the opportunity to actively contribute rather than just observe. <h3>What was your favorite part about Ghana?</h3>
<p>My favorite part about my host country was the warmth and sense of community I experienced every day.&nbsp;</p>
<p>In Bolgatanga, people are incredibly welcoming, and it’s easy to feel at home even when you are far away. I especially loved spending time with the local community, from interacting with colleagues at work to playing and learning with the children in the afternoons. Their joy, resilience, and positive energy were truly inspiring. I also appreciated the opportunity to immerse myself in a different culture, discovering local traditions, food, and ways of life that differ greatly from my own.&nbsp;</p>
<p>The slower pace of life and the strong sense of connection between people made me reflect on what truly matters. It was an experience that not only allowed me to explore a new place, but also to grow personally and see the world from a new perspective.</p>
<h3>What made your experience abroad extraordinary?</h3>
<p>What made my experience abroad extraordinary was the combination of meaningful work, genuine human connections, and personal growth. It was not just about living in a new country, but about being actively involved in a community where my presence and contributions had real value.&nbsp;</p>
<p>Working closely with the team at Future4Africa gave me the opportunity to learn how impactful development work is created behind the scenes, especially in areas like partnerships and fundraising.</p>
<p>At the same time, the relationships I built with the local community made the experience truly unforgettable. Spending time with the children, sharing daily moments, and witnessing their energy and resilience had a lasting impact on me. I also felt constantly supported and safe, which allowed me to fully focus on learning and giving my best.&nbsp;</p>
<p>Overall, the experience was extraordinary because it changed my perspective on life, work, and what it means to contribute to something bigger than myself.</p>
<h3>How did local staff support you throughout your program?</h3>
<p>The local staff supported me throughout the program in a very consistent, caring, and professional way. From the moment I arrived, they made sure I felt welcomed and comfortable, helping me settle in and understand my daily schedule and responsibilities. They were always available to answer questions, provide guidance, and ensure that I was adapting well to the new environment.</p>
<p>During my time in the program, they offered continuous support both in my internship tasks and in my interaction with the community. They shared valuable insights about the local context, which helped me better understand the impact of our work and how to approach it respectfully and effectively. I also appreciated how approachable and attentive they were, always checking in to make sure everything was going well.&nbsp;</p>
<p>Their support created a safe and encouraging environment where I could learn, contribute, and fully engage in the experience.</p>
<h3>What's one thing you wish you would have done differently during your time abroad?</h3>
<p>One thing I wish I would have done differently during my time abroad is to engage even more deeply with the local community outside of my scheduled activities. While I already spent meaningful time with the children and participated actively in my internship, I sometimes feel I could have taken more initiative to explore additional opportunities to learn from local people, their traditions, and everyday life.<br><br>I would have liked to ask more questions, participate in more community events, and spend extra time simply observing and understanding how people live and interact in their environment. I believe this would have helped me gain an even deeper cultural understanding and made the experience even more enriching. However, I still feel very grateful for everything I experienced and learned during my time abroad.</p>
<h3>Describe what a typical day in your life abroad looked like.</h3>
<p>A typical day abroad in Sogakope and Accra started with a simple morning routine, followed by heading to my internship activities. During the day, I worked closely with the team at Future4Africa, where I was involved in tasks related to fundraising and partnerships, such as supporting ideas for campaigns, assisting with communication materials, and learning how nonprofit projects are managed behind the scenes.<br><br>After the morning and early afternoon work, I often had time to visit or spend moments with the local community. One of the most meaningful parts of the day was interacting with the children playing with them, talking, and simply sharing time together. These moments were always full of energy, joy, and connection.<br><br>In the evenings, I usually reflected on the day, spent time with other volunteers or staff, and prepared for the next day. Overall, each day was a balance of learning, contributing, and experiencing a new culture, which made the routine both meaningful and fulfilling.</p>
<h3>What did you enjoy doing during your free time abroad?</h3>

<p>During my free time abroad, I enjoyed spending time with the local community and other interns, as these moments were always very meaningful and relaxed. I especially liked playing and interacting with the children, as their energy and happiness made every moment special and memorable. It was a great way to connect beyond work and truly feel part of the community.<br><br>I also enjoyed having quiet time to reflect on my experiences, write notes about what I was learning, and process everything I was experiencing day by day. Occasionally, I explored the surroundings, observed daily life in these communities, and learned more about the local culture and environment.<br><br>Overall, my free time was a balance of social connection, reflection, and cultural immersion, which made the whole experience even more enriching and fulfilling.</p>
<h3>What type of accommodation did you have? What did you like best about it?</h3>
<p>During my time abroad, I stayed in shared accommodation arranged by the organization. It was simple, clean, and well-organized, providing everything needed for a comfortable stay. I shared the space with other volunteers, which created a very friendly and social environment where we could connect, share experiences, and support each other throughout the program.<br><br>What I liked best about the accommodation was the sense of community it created. Living together with other interns made the experience feel less like being a visitor and more like being part of a team. We often shared meals, discussed our daily experiences, and built strong friendships. I also appreciated the feeling of safety and the support from the local staff, who were always available if anything was needed.&nbsp;</p>
<p>Overall, it was a very welcoming environment that made the whole experience more enjoyable and meaningful.</p>
<h3>What is one thing every future participant should know about your program before their program begins?</h3>
<p>One thing every future participant should know before starting this program is that it is a very hands-on and immersive experience, not just an observational one. You are expected to actively engage, contribute ideas, and take initiative, especially in areas like community work, fundraising, or project support. It is a real opportunity to learn by doing, and the more you put into it, the more you get out of it.</p>
<p>It is also important to come with an open mind and a willingness to adapt. Life and work in a different cultural and community context can be very different from what you are used to, but that is part of what makes the experience so valuable. Flexibility, respect, and curiosity go a long way in helping you fully integrate and enjoy the experience.&nbsp;</p>
<p>Finally, building relationships with both the team and the local community is key, as those connections are what make the program truly meaningful and unforgettable.</p>

<p>The biggest benefit of traveling abroad is the opportunity to broaden your perspective and grow both personally and professionally. Being in a different country exposes you to new cultures, ways of thinking, and ways of living, which challenges your assumptions and helps you see the world in a more open and understanding way.</p>
<p>It also builds important life skills such as adaptability, independence, communication, and problem-solving, especially when you are navigating unfamiliar environments. Beyond that, it creates meaningful human connections with people from different backgrounds, which can be very impactful and long-lasting.</p>
<p>Overall, traveling abroad is not just about discovering new places but about discovering yourself, your values, and your ability to adapt and contribute in different contexts.</p>

<h3>Now that you're home, how has your time abroad impacted your life?</h3>
<p>Now that I am home, my time abroad has had a very strong and lasting impact on my life. It has completely changed the way I see the world, making me more open-minded, adaptable, and aware of different realities beyond my own environment. Living and working in Bolgatanga helped me understand the importance of community, resilience, and human connection in a much deeper way.</p>
<p>Professionally, the experience gave me practical skills and confidence, especially in areas like teamwork, communication, and contributing to meaningful projects such as fundraising and community support.&nbsp;</p>
<p>Personally, it helped me grow more independent and reflective, and I now approach challenges with a more positive and solution-oriented mindset.</p>
<p>Overall, I feel the experience has shaped both my personal values and my future goals. It has motivated me to continue working in impactful environments and to stay connected to international and community-focused projects.</p>
<h3>What does meaningful travel mean to you?</h3>
<p>Meaningful travel, to me, is about going beyond tourism and truly engaging with the people, culture, and purpose of a place. It is not just about visiting new destinations but about creating genuine connections and contributing positively to the community you are part of, even if only for a short time.</p>
<p>It also means being open to learning, listening, and adapting. Meaningful travel challenges your perspectives and helps you grow as a person by exposing you to different ways of life and different realities. For me, it is about combining personal growth with impact whether through volunteering, internships, or cultural exchange so that both the traveler and the host community benefit from the experience.</p>
<p>Ultimately, meaningful travel is about leaving a place with more than just memories, but also with lessons, relationships, and a deeper understanding of the world and your role in it.</p>
