Experience living in Ghana as you assist understaffed schools with taking care of the students and teaching them English. This project will allow you to learn more about life in Ghana and the impact that foreign aid has on the community, as you integrate into the school system and work alongside the teachers. During your time at the boarding school (you will be living in a separate location) you will lead educational games and interact with the children, help them learn English and help with some repair work around the school grounds. All this whilst living a stone throws away from stunning beaches!

If you're on a gap year, summer placement, or career break and want to get your hands dirty, our Community Building project in Ghana may be right for you. Volunteers are based in the Akuapem Hills, just over an hour north of Accra. You will join a team of Projects Abroad volunteers and local people constructing and renovating simple buildings in the local communities. In many areas of Ghana, thousands of families live in inadequate accommodation and children attend school in crumbling buildings. Our construction project allows them to move to new, better quality homes and for the children to receive an education in secure, new classrooms.

Interning with OGVO in Ghana is a great opportunity for social work students looking to gain professional experience in a different cultural setting. This is especially useful for students interested in using their experience to get university credit for their degree. This internship can help you accumulate working hours, provide you with hands-on work, and ensures you are supervised by a qualified professional. As one of the most stable and economically advanced countries in Africa, Ghana is often regarded as a success story, particularly in West Africa. Regrettably, the country is facing rising levels of economic inequality, which has deeply affected orphans, child laborers, and children living in troubled homes. Your training in social work is needed to assist local staff and provide children with specialized care. Social work is less common in Ghana than in other African countries. Your knowledge, dedication, and skills will allow you to work with people that desperately need help, while also raising awareness in local communities. Throughout your internship, all of your work will be supervised by a qualified local professional.
