Working in a tropical paradise
February 24, 2026by: Felicitas Hahn - GermanyProgram: Australia Hotel & Tourism Jobs
I spent a total of 5 months in Australia and did an internship in an Australian hostel for about 3 months. I arrived in Australia at the end of November and started working on one of the Great Barrier Reef islands a few days later. I was an intern supporting the reception team and worked 2 days a week. My main tasks included checking guests in and out, sorting car and snorkel hires and answering calls and emails as well as helping out on the bar whenever needed. I’ve never worked a reception job before but everyone was super friendly and helped me whenever I had any questions. As I was living on site, I also quickly made friends among the other staff and spent most of my free time with them. After a few weeks I decided to pick up some paid shifts in housekeeping mostly to keep myself busy but also to get a little extra money for my travels after my internship. At the very beginning of my time in Australia, I was really overwhelmed by basically everything - it was too hot, too many people and everything seemed so exhausting. However I am really glad that regardless of how I felt, I still made an effort to go out with my roommates, I still made sure to spend lots of time with all the other staff and now, a few months later, they are like my family far from home and I couldn’t be happier to have met them. Apart from the social aspect, living and working on a tropical island feels unreal as well - waking up with a beach right in front of my room or spending my days off doing hikes where I see koalas is something I could’ve never imagined back home. I would definitely recommend doing an internship like that or working abroad for some time, because it not only teaches you what having a job in a different country is like, it also is a one in a lifetime experience of meeting people from all around the world, all in the same situation as oneself.
Best decision
November 27, 2025by: Nuria Frei - SwitzerlandProgram: Australia Hotel & Tourism Jobs
Taking part in this program was honestly one of the best decisions I made for my gap year. The team helped place me in a casual Guest Service/Reception role at a hostel in Byron Bay, and the whole process was smooth and supportive from start to finish. When I first arrived, I worked casual hours on the front desk—checking guests in, answering questions, helping with bookings, and making sure everyone felt welcome. It was a great way to ease into the job, settle into the area, and get comfortable with the hostel environment. After a some time, I was offered full-time hours, which meant more responsibility and more chances to really get involved in the day-to-day running of the hostel. I handled everything from guest check-ins and maintaining common areas and general customer service. It was busy, fun, and no two days were the same. One of the best parts was getting to live on-site with the other staff. It created an instant community—everyone was friendly, supportive, and always up for a surf, a sunset walk, or a spontaneous night out. Living where you work made life so easy, and it really felt like a little family away from home. And Byron Bay… what a place to spend a gap year. On my days off, I’d go to the beach, hike up to the lighthouse, try new cafés, explore the markets, or go for a surf. The town has such a relaxed, positive energy, and it’s impossible not to fall in love with the lifestyle. If you’re thinking about doing a working holiday in Australia, I can’t recommend this program enough. Having help with the placement, the support network, and the chance to step straight into a job and community made the whole experience stress-free and incredibly rewarding. It’s the perfect way to meet new people, gain work experience, and enjoy everything Australia has to offer. I’d do it all over again in a heartbeat.
The Australia Experience
July 17, 2025by: Sophia Talo - United StatesThis was a wonderful program in a not-so-traveled part of Australia. When Americans think of Australia, they usually imagine Sydney or Melbourne. But Perth is quite the city gem. It's a very culturally rich city with fun activities, festivals, and museums. The area has plenty of nature, with Yanchep National Park nearby as well. There are plenty of fun places to go, and it is a large city to explore. The University is world-renowned, and the campus is beautiful. Everyone I met was so kind, and we were offered many opportunities to go out and explore the city and the surrounding area. I interned at Mosman Park Football Club as a Sports Trainer, and it was a fun way to meet people in the community, even see them out in the city. I was close with my mentor, and she still is a great friend of mine. The internship does not take away from your travel; if anything, they encourage it! My course work was difficult but nothing that was different from my home university. It was nice to learn from professors that are knowledgeable in their field. As a pre-health professional a study abroad experience is essential. It might seem impossible with the course work, shadowing and interning. But, you can do it all and still explore and learn and gain expirience. Especially if you aren't fluent in a language, Australia is a good alternitive.

Abroad with Koalas!!
August 16, 2024by: Megan Stout - United StatesI couldn't have asked for a better experience. The first week in Australia really set the tone for the entire trip. The orientation week was located in Cairns, Australia and we got to know the other interns in our home city and other cities as well. We also learned about aboriginal culture and the pride Australians take in it, and we were given an insight on Australian culture and how to decipher the slang used. I stayed in Brisbane, Australia and as a Zoology major I was placed at Lone Pine Koala Sanctuary. I had a very open learning environment and had hands-on experience with animals I didn't even know existed before going to Australia. I had an insane moment when I saw a baby koala come out of the mothers pouch when I was cleaning the enclosure. The layout of my internship allowed me the time to explore and travel to other cities and even see the North Island of New Zealand. However, before I started traveling I really got to find my way around Brisbane with my Residential Directors help and recommendations. Trivia Tuesdays at Stockies Exchange Hotel never failed us.

Best Summer in Melbourne
March 04, 2024by: Lauren Whitaker - United StatesThis trip was the best experience of my entire life so far! The memories that I have gained from going to Australia are unmatched. If you are debating on if you should go, just go!! I grew so much in my confidence, made amazing friends from all over the world, learned from the best of those in my aspired career, and took part in Australian culture. I also had the opportunity to attend fun sporting events, travel to other areas of Australia, and work alongside well-known athletes!
Down Under Discovery
February 27, 2024by: Mark Perez - United StatesOne of the standout aspects of my internship experience was the level of support and mentorship provided by both AIP and my host company. From regular check-ins to constructive feedback sessions, I always felt valued and supported in my growth and development. The guidance I received not only enhanced my technical skills but also helped me gain valuable insights into the industry and workplace culture in Australia. Big thanks to my account manager who made sure a smooth placement process. This wouldn't be possible without the team's effort.
Life Changing
February 27, 2024by: Jaya Tuggle - United StatesI had the time of my life. I feel like the two months I spent in Australia were a movie. So much happened, and I learned a lot about myself and my future profession. I made friends with people that I never would have even known had I not gone. At my gym, I learned new skills like how to coach children and how to properly execute and teach different lifts. I also go to discover some cultural differences in coaching styles in Australia vs the USA. I made friends with and met some professional athletes and even sat front row of my new favorite sports AFL and Rugby. I definitely recommend it.
Best abroad experience!
February 23, 2024by: Libby Bailey - United StatesI have had the pleasure of studying and interning abroad in Perth, at the University of Western Australia with TEAN and ISA. I have had the most fantastic time exploring Australia and meeting new people. TEAN and ISA has made coming over here so easy with all of the help they provided me by helping me find my internship, student accommodation, and support 24/7 while abroad. I have met some of the most amazing people not only through my student accommodation and University but also other students that are here through TEAN and ISA. I have made lifelong friendships with those students and will cherish that forever. Some of the amazing opportunities and excursions that I have been able to do through TEAN and ISA was going to Cairns in Queensland and seeing the Great Barrier Reef, I have been able to go surfing, and also watch a professional AFL game. This is just a few of the many extra excursions and activities TEAN provides for their students abroad.

A life-changing experience
December 21, 2023by: Madeline Caughron - United StatesThis program reinforced my love for trying new things and meeting new people. I made lifelong friends from the program and from my workplace, I was able to visit somewhere I had always wanted to go, and I grew as a person and as a young professional. I truly wouldn’t trade this experience for anything and I will continue to recommend it to people.

Memories for life
December 21, 2023by: Karina Stork - United StatesI had a wonderful experience, with some of my favorite parts being those provided by ISA. Orientation in Cairns was a once-in-a-lifetime experienced and remained a highlight of my semester abroad, especially exploring the Great Barrier Reef. My encouragement to others would be to take advantage of every opportunity, especially those provided by ISA.
Digging down under: why I loved my experience in Australia
December 16, 2023by: Ella Scoville - United StatesMy experience working with ISA & TEAN to make my goal of studying abroad a reality was fantastic. The chance to intern abroad in Melbourne, Australia exceeded all my expectations in the best way, and truly changed my life. Working with Xena throughout the entire process made everything incredibly easy, and I cannot thank her enough for all her efforts in making this the most enjoyable experience. She is a wonderful human who made the transitions and travel happen seamlessly, and will always be a mentor and friend. I have never been to a place like Australia, and I instantly fell in love, feeling right at home exploring the wonderful city of Melbourne. The people of Australia are the most genuine, easy going, and welcoming I have ever encountered, and the way of living is breezy. The differences in culture was eye-opening, and sparked my desire to see the world and be everywhere. My internship placement was the best and most unique work experience I have had yet, as a student physiotherapist intern with Prahran FC, a local footy team. I learned so much from my supervisor and got to do hands on work with the players that I otherwise would not have while interning in the U.S. The staff, team and everyone was so welcoming, and allowed us to participate in their club traditions like weekly dinners, post-game socials, and the mid-season gala. Working with the players provided me with the opportunity to interact and learn so much about Australian culture in an organic way that I otherwise would have missed out on. Overall, the entirety of the experience was absolutely extraordinary, and I would recommend it to anyone who is considering going abroad. This experience was exceptional in so many ways, and I cannot thank ISA/TEAN enough for all their hard work and effort into making my time down under the best it could possibly be.

Best experience of my life!
December 13, 2023by: Rory McGuinness - United StatesI was lucky enough to be placed in Perth, Australia last summer! I worked with a footy team as a sports trainer and got to learn so much! Everyone there was incredible and willing to go out of the way to make the experience even better. I got to learn hands on how to treat and prevent injuries and watch the footy games up close! It is now my new favorite sport! While abroad I was also easily able to travel to other places like Melbourne, Sydney, and even Bali. I was able to get the full Australian experience and play with koalas and kangaroos as well as see the Great Barrier Reef which they are highly known for. The views are breath taking and this was an experience I will never forget thanks to ISA by Worldstrides. Definitely recommend going if the opportunity arises!!

Australian Odyssey
November 29, 2023by: Luke Rodriguez - United StatesAIP ensured a supportive and enriching learning environment for me during my internship. The program's structure allowed for both professional growth and cultural immersion that I have never had before. Grateful for the chance to learn, contribute, enjoy, and immerse myself in both professional and Australian life. The well-coordinated activities and mentorship added tremendous value. Grateful for this opportunity and would highly recommend AIP for an unforgettable internship journey Down Under.
An Inside Look at My Internship Experience in Spain
November 24, 2023by: Alexis Bauer - FranceI had the privilege of completing a remarkable internship experience in Spain facilitated by AIP, and I am delighted to share my thoughts on this transformative journey. Throughout my internship, I had the chance to engage in hands-on projects that stretched my capabilities and allowed me to apply the theoretical knowledge gained in my academic studies. Whether it was collaborating on projects or participating in group discussions, every task contributed to a robust learning experience.
Such a life experience!
February 21, 2023by: David Costas Lindblom - SpainProgram: Australia Hotel & Tourism Jobs
Me and my girlfriend wanted to work and travel after graduating highschool and decided to contact InternX for some advice. At first we wanted to work in New Zealand, but because we do not have a drivings license our coordinator adviced us with a wide amount of options. Out of those alternatives we chose an island near The Great Barrier Reef in Queensland, Australia. We came all the way from Spain and Sweden and thanks to the organisation everything went very well and smooth. As soon as we arrived we quickly felt included in the big island family! We have now been working on a resort here for nearly four months and we are so greatful for all the experiences and the people we met. We have been able to explore the island on 4WD and camp with new friends from all over the world. We are very thankfull for this life experiendce and all the help from our coordinator (very good communication throughout the process and very understanding). We would recommend this 110%!

I enjoyed my internship
December 26, 2022by: IhopI enjoyed my internship and I do believe I learned a lot and gained a lot of valuable experience in my field. However, I chose no to "Would you recommend World Endeavors to a friend or colleague?" because of the financial and time cost of the program. While I definitely gained value, I struggle to determine if the value gained was worth the cost.
I’ve really appreciated their attention to the person
December 21, 2022by: SaraI’ve really appreciated their attention to the person. My advisor asked me frequently how the experience was going. And yes, I would recommend World Endeavors to my friends and colleagues. Overall, I rate my experience a 10.
