CIEE HS Summer Abroad: Korean Language & Culture in Seoul

Hone your Korean skills in the buzzing metropolis of Seoul. Take your Korean to the next level with four weeks of language immersion in Seoul. You'll master Hangul, one of the world's youngest alphabets, and sharpen your conversation skills as you get to know South Korea’s colorful heritage. After language class, connect with locals in traditional markets, Buddhist temples, and themed cafés. Explore iconic neighborhoods like Hongdae, where aspiring performers show off their talents, and Myeongdong, Seoul's vibrant shopping district. The quality time you'll have with your host family will open your eyes to a new way of living—prepare traditional meals, savor Korean dishes, and enjoy communal dining. On weekends, you'll embark on exciting excursions to places like scenic Nami Island and historic Jeonju, home to Korea’s largest "hanok" (traditional wooden homes) village. Your experience in Seoul will allow you to improve your Korean and provide you with the unique opportunity to live like a local and make lifelong "chingu" (friends)!

Summer Korean Immersion Program at Seoul

The Seoul summer program of LanguBridge provides students an unforgettable immersion experience in Korea through intense language learning and cultural exploration. Participants have the opportunity to live with a host family that is more than happy to share the local culture and language with international students. This is an ideal opportunity for teens to explore a different culture and learn at the same time. The language study is hosted at a local university, which provides high-quality instruction and a safe and comfortable learning environment. Staying with a local host family allows students to immerse themselves in the local language and culture and interact with local people. The trips and culture lessons are to complement the language classes to make a fun and enriching experience. Our programs combine premium quality with unmatched value — delivering the same depth of learning and cultural engagement as other programs, but at a much lower price.

The Experiment: South Korea: K-Culture & Peacebuilding

Explore themes of peace and conflict resolution while experiencing South Korea’s distinct blend of modern K-pop culture and ancient traditions. Begin in Seoul, a dynamic global city where you’ll explore Joseon Dynasty palaces and visit the DMZ to learn about the peninsula’s division and its ongoing impact. Participate in hands-on workshops focused on peacebuilding, conflict analysis, and human rights. Immerse yourself in modern Korean culture with a K-pop dance class, basic Korean language lessons, and exchanges with local youth about life, reunification, and K-culture. Experience both modern and traditional sides of Korea with an overnight temple stay, where Buddhist monks introduce meditation and religious traditions. During a homestay, live with a local family, share daily meals, and complete a community service project alongside Korean students. Conclude your experience back in Seoul with visits to cultural landmarks and a final reflection on your journey. Participants will earn a community service certificate recognizing their contributions and learning.
