This program seeks to qualify students in advanced Counseling and Psychology. Applicants should have a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology, Social Work, or a related field with at least a Second Class honors degree or equivalent. Applicants without a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology or Social Work will be considered but the department will require them to complete specific prerequisite courses. Most applicants will be interviewed. This program was developed to meet the growing need for qualified counselors in Barbados and the Eastern Caribbean. It offers practitioners the skills necessary to address psychological issues within organizations and society. The goal is to produce practitioners and academics who have a working knowledge of and appreciation for the discipline of counseling psychology and who are able to analyze societal problems by applying contemporary theories. This program aids in the conducting of psychological research on the counseling needs of individuals in society. An emphasis is placed on students' learning to provide adequate psychological counseling services to individuals and groups in society.
