Locations
Because of its unusual shape jutting into the Mediterranean Sea from the south of Europe, Italy is often referred to by locals as lo Stivale, which means ‘the Boot’ in Italian. The third most populous country in the European Union, Italy is home to several famous cities, an imposing amount of ancient and medieval architecture, and an immense diversity of landscapes which beg to be explored.
Adventure travel programs in Italy will often take you to multiple destinations throughout the countryside, which means that you will get to sample a little bit of everything during the duration of your travels. To begin with, some of the most popular cities visited during adventure travel in Italy include Rome, Florence, and Venice. Each of these destinations boasts beautiful architecture and fascinating histories, both of which are largely distinct from one another no less.
Beyond the cities, you might also move on to explore regions such as Sicily, Siena, or Sorrento while you adventure travel in Italy. Sicily is an autonomous province and the largest island in the Mediterranean Sea, sitting just off the southern tip of the Italian mainland. Siena is a province in the central region of Tuscany, and Sorrento spans a peninsula on the country’s southwest coast overlooking Naples. These are only a few of the many places you can visit by embarking on an adventure travel program in Italy!
Adventure Travel in Italy
Adventure travel programs in Italy come in all shapes and sizes, as the country encompasses a tremendous amount of different ecosystems and cultures which have risen within them.
As one of the oldest and most influential cultures in the world, history buffs may enjoy adventure travel in Italy within the realm of archaeology, student tours, or heritage tourism. From the ancient Romans through the Italian Renaissance to the forging of the Kingdom of Italy, you will be hard-pressed to find a more influential region to explore on the European continent.
For those that are more interested in outdoor activities, adventure travel programs in Italy also cover the spread of exciting opportunities in nature. From land adventures such as trekking and snowboarding in the Alps to aquatic activities such as scuba diving or sailing in the country’s extensive Mediterranean waters, thrill seekers will not be left wanting while they adventure travel in Italy.
Lastly, for environmentally-conscious travellers who want to leave behind a positive impact on their surroundings, eco tours are also a very popular option. These combine all the thrills of a normal adventure travel program in Italy with the opportunity to give a little something back through environmental studies and volunteer projects. A little caring can go a long way!
Costs & Affordability
Adventure travel programs in Italy are fairly expensive, encompassing all the costs of food, housing, transportation, and activities throughout the duration of your trip. You may also want to bring some pocket money for souvenirs and any additional entertainment you might be inclined to seek out while abroad. Programs vary widely in affordability depending on their length and what activities you will be engaging in, so research carefully to find the perfect fit for your interests and budget!
Accommodation & Visas
As you will often be moving around frequently during adventure travel in Italy, you will accordingly stay within a variety of different accommodations. Hotels and inns of various types are popular, and you may additionally get the chance to stay in quirkier accommodations ranging all the way from farms and ranches to medieval castles. Be sure to inquire for a detailed itinerary with your program provider to scout out what your living quarters will look like in advance!
Italy’s visa policy will vary depending on where your home country is; many adventure travellers will only need to apply if they intend to stay in the country for longer than three months, while others may have to obtain documentation prior to arrival. For more information regarding your individual circumstances, be sure to check out our Italian Embassy Directory.
Benefits & Challenges
Mediterranean Destination. If you have never been to a Mediterranean country before, then Italy is the perfect place to begin exploring. Long one of the most influential countries and cultures in the region, you will only benefit more by its unrivaled scenic beauty.
Italian Roots. Italians have a fun-loving, animated culture which you will enjoy immensely while travelling throughout the country. Family is also very important, and it will show in their tremendous hospitality.
Freedom to Explore. The sense of freedom that you will enjoy while you adventure travel in Italy is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity. So cut loose, open your mind, and make this the adventure of your lifetime!
Embarking on an adventure travel program in Italy is the rare opportunity to combine thrill-seeking activities with the opportunity to explore one of the world’s most historically influential nations. Who said an education can’t be fun?

Best trip for adventurous teens
October 24, 2026by: Lauren Cat - United StatesProgram: TFT: Alpine Adventure - Switzerland, France and Italy
Travel For Teen’s Alpine Adventure gave me opportunities that no other company could top. Whether it was zip lining through the Swiss Alps or even paragliding from above the French Alps, these experiences were truly a once in a lifetime experience. Cultural experiences were also at the forefront of the trip with nights filled with delicious cuisine from all three countries. To wrap it up, there’s nothing I would’ve have traded for such a great trip, and I recommend this to any teen wanting to get out of their comfort zone.

Adventures I'll Never Forget
October 21, 2026by: Ryan M - United StatesI had the best time on my TFT trip to Italy, Spain, and France, where we visited Rome, Florence, Barcelona, and Paris! The trip was the perfect mix of city exploration, cultural experiences, and coastal scenery. Some of my favorite highlights included taking a cooking class in Montalcino, cruising along the Seine River, visiting the Colosseum and the Sagrada Familia, exploring Florence's leather shops, and seeing the Eiffel Tower. I also loved trying new foods and experiencing the different cultures throughout the trip. The TFT trip directors are incredible! They are so accommodating, organized, and welcoming, and they made sure everyone felt included and had an amazing experience. Travel For Teens gave me the opportunity to explore new places, experience different cultures, and make memories I'll never forget. Having traveled with TFT multiple summers, I would absolutely recommend them to anyone looking for an unforgettable trip filled with new adventures and amazing people!

October 19, 2026by: Elizabeth McGowan - United StatesProgram: TFT Older Teens: Florence, Cinque Terre, Switzerland & Paris
I did my second trip with TFT to Italy, Switzerland, and France and it couldn't have been better!! TFT's trips create a really open yet safe environment- giving us freedom in safe areas to feel like locals while having structured tours of important sites. They created a really awesome environment that allowed me to make quick friends with the other kids on the trip. If you're able to do a trip with TFT, definitely do it. I have memories that will stick with me forever!

My Mamma Mia Summer
October 15, 2026by: Evan Cronin - United StatesThe summer of 2026 was my first time adventuring abroad through Travel For Teens. I really enjoyed my counselor’s enthusiasm upon arrival. Meeting new people my age from different parts of the world is always so awkward or silent at first, but getting to know them as the days go by makes me realize how fun it is to get to know others. My Greece and Italy trip was so fun. I played Mamma Mia music because I was in Greece and everybody joined in which is so cool. I got to see so much history, and the views were incredible. I really enjoyed my time and that’s why I’ll be going to another country using Travel For Teens!

The BEST Experience for High Schoolers!
October 15, 2026by: Hayley Krause - United StatesI was on the Italy, Switzerland, and France TFT trip the summer before my junior year, and it was the best experience. It was such a good blend of destinations, from Italian beaches, Swiss Mountains, and city life in Paris. The trip was filled with fun excursions such as paragliding, canyoning, and hiking, but also gave kids enough down time to be able to walk around towns or relax on the beach. As someone who is adventurous and has always loved to explore, this trip was perfect as TFT made time for exploring the local culture and daily life of the places we visited. Seeing the leather market in Firenze and eating local Parisian food was so much fun and also allowed me time to talk to locals about their home country. The staff of TFT were incredible and they always made sure everyone was happy with the trip through consistent check-ins, asking if there was anything else we needed or wanted to do to make our trip even better. If you have a kid who is adventurous and wants experience being more independent before college, I highly recommend TFT trips.
Best Summer Experience!!
October 15, 2026by: Lucy Rainwater - United StatesWhen going into a trip abroad, young and without your family, this trip truly strengthens you through the trust you can have in your counselor. I will forever cherish this trip for the strength it gave me. I have made many of my best friends through these trips.

Best way to spend summer!
October 15, 2026by: Livi Buhler-Lieberman - United StatesProgram: TFT Older Teens: Florence, Cinque Terre, Switzerland & Paris
I have done other teen tours but nothing compared to Travel for Teens. Starting with both of my chaperones (Noah and Claudia), they were genuinely amazing, the sweetest, coolest, and “older sibling” energy. Then, the places we went: My favorite was Switzerland so beautiful and between canyoning and paragliding COULD NOT have asked for anything better. Italy was beautiful and Paris was so much fun. All of the other students on my trip were great, after a couple hours together we all clicked. I came into the trip on my own and left with 15 new friends. I know my parents really appreciated the daily updates from my trip leaders and the pictures they would send. I felt super safe and comfortable the entire time. I would 110% recommend going on a trip with TFT!
I had a great time
October 13, 2026by: Jake Handelsman - United StatesProgram: TFT Older Teens: Florence, Cinque Terre, Switzerland & Paris
I had lots of fun on this trip I went with a friend we had a great experience. Our counselors were awesome. We went swimming in Italy and paragliding in Switzerland. Switzerland was probably my favorite stop. It was super beautiful and I would love to go back. I made lots of new friends and had an amazing time. I’m still in contact with some of the people I went on the trip with even though it’s been almost 4 months and I still talk to some from my trip last year. it was overall a great experience.

An Unforgettable Journey Through Europe with Amazing Memories
July 11, 2026by: Jermicah OB - American SamoaProgram: TFT Older Teens: Florence, Cinque Terre, Switzerland & Paris
As someone who travels full-time and enjoys blogging about new experiences, this trip was one of the most memorable journeys I've had. Visiting Florence, Cinque Terre, Switzerland, and Paris gave me the opportunity to experience different cultures, beautiful landscapes, and incredible history in a single adventure. Florence impressed me with its stunning architecture and rich artistic heritage, while Cinque Terre offered colorful coastal villages and breathtaking sea views that were perfect for photography and relaxing walks. During the trip, I captured many memorable moments and later shared some of my travel experiences alongside my gaming and technology articles on my website, 33RS Game (33rsgame.net). Traveling inspires much of my writing, and exploring new places always gives me fresh ideas for creating engaging content. Switzerland was everything I hoped for, with its breathtaking mountain scenery, crystal-clear lakes, and efficient transportation making every day enjoyable. Paris was the perfect destination to end the journey, offering iconic landmarks, charming cafés, beautiful architecture, and an unforgettable atmosphere. The itinerary was well organized, giving us enough time to explore each destination without feeling rushed. I also met wonderful people throughout the journey, making the experience even more enjoyable and meaningful. I would happily recommend this tour to anyone who loves travel, discovering new cultures, and creating unforgettable memories. Whether you're visiting Europe for the first time or returning to experience more, this journey offers an excellent combination of history, nature, culture, and adventure that you'll remember for years to come.

It was an amazing trip
February 14, 2026by: Zach Clar - United StatesMy trip to Italy was truly an extraordinary vacation and I highly recommend! We went from city to city, trying different foods, and many fun experiences like a private cooking lesson and visiting the Coliseum. I had so much fun that I've decided to go on a second trip with Travel for Teens this summer.

Something I will never forget
December 26, 2025by: Hailey Jackle - CanadaThis was one of the biggest challenges of my life. I learned skills and made memories that will stick with me for the rest of my life. I made lifelong friends during this shared adventure. This was the best thing I could have done for myself.
Greece and Italy Adventure
November 20, 2025by: Dylan Plant - United StatesGoing on Travel for Teens' Greece and Italy adventure was one of the most rewarding experiences I've ever had. I got to travel to incredible places like Capri, Amalfi Coast, Rome, Athens, and Lefkada. As someone who hadn't ever been out of the country by myself, Travel for Teens allowed me to feel safe and confident about being in a country with people I had never met before. It was super easy to make friends, to feel safe with my councillors, and to have fun. I always look back on that trip as transformative (for myself), and the highlight of my summer. I think travel for teens did a great job with the itinerary, and also picking councillors that were very good connecting with the students. Overall, I had a great time being apart of Travel for Teens' program.
I had so much Fun!!
November 17, 2025by: Allie Dey - United StatesHonestly, it was SO much fun. We did so many cool things, saw incredible places, and I made some of my best friends on this trip. It was definitely expensive, but 100% worth it for everything we got to do and the memories we made. Seriously, if you get the chance, go for it!
